O2 Sensors
O2 Sensors
What if the life expectancy of O2 sensors? Reason I ask because I think my car is running a little on the rich side. My gas mileage is a little on the low side and I very rarely hammer the throttle, I can even small some raw gas out the tail pipe and I still have the cat on my car and that isn't giving problems...yet. What is a good replacement O2 sensor to go with?
Re: O2 Sensors
i'm not sure what the life of them is suppose to be, maybe 60k miles?? Mine seamed to be working fine with 180k on them when i changed them. Also do not buy any o2 except fot the gm ac delco sensors, all the rest of them will crap out a lot sooner.
Re: O2 Sensors
95 single cat cars don't use after cat o2's so you don't need sim's nor would You want them. If u have 4 o2's just have the rear set programed out when you ditch the cat, it does the same thing and is cheaper.
Re: O2 Sensors
Do 02's always throw a code? ..on a obd1. i am only getting like 160-180 miles to a tank and dont really beat on it. got 132k on mine and i think it is time for a change.
How long do they take to install.? are they really that hard to do?...not like plugs i hope

Not sure about bad 02 sensors throwing a code on the OBD1...I'm sure someone here knows...
...but it may be safe to assume you'll have a heck of a time getting the old ones off the car at 132K, and if you've driven the car year-round in Pennsylvania.
Do you have headers on your car or just stock manifolds?
When I put Hooker shorties on my car a few yrs. ago, the car only had 40k-ish on it, but b/c the car had gone through every Chicagoland winter up to when I bought it, we couldn't budge the pass. side sensor off the stock manifold in order to reuse it, so we had to make a run to Autozone for a new one.
I highly recommend buying an "O2 sensor socket" from Pep Boyeeeez/Auto Zone, etc. It's got a slot down the side of the socket to accommodate the wire coming out of the sensor. This will allow you to use a ratchet w/ the socket to get better leverage than an open-end wrench.
Drench those things in PB Blaster to help get 'em off, and put a little anti-seize on the new ones.
It may be a frustrating experience. It was for me the first time.

Re: O2 Sensors
I have a 97 Z28, is this an OBDII with 4 O2 sensors? If so i'm also wondering when i delete the CATS, and add LT headers, will i have to reprogram? Sorry for hijacking the thread, just wondering.
