O2 sensor removal issues

1996 Z28, factory cats and manifolds, original O2s

Did a search but need more detailed info

It appears as though I can get to the driver's side by simply using a good deal of patience (I hope). My issue is the passenger side.

Dropping the Y pipe is out of the question (until I get headers ). The bolts are so badly rusted the threads are barely visible. No way these will come off without breaking.

Can I get to the O2 by dropping the starter? After taking a look I'm not sure I can fit an arm and socket up through that opening.

If dropping the starter won't give me the needed room, what are my options with broken Y pipe bolts?

Thanks guys.

i had to drop my ypipe.........there was no way it was coming out without it.........but i have thick forearms

my ypipe bolts were pretty rusty, but letting them soak overnight with PB Blaster worked wonders.

my single cat car wasn't too hard at all. On the other hand my friends 97 was impossible he just waited until he did headers.

I just replaced both my O2's and your right the drivers side was easy. I changed my pass side O2 through the top with a borrowed O2 socekt from my 5.0 buddy (apparently they are both the same size). Took about a half hour to get it on there and turn it in tiny increments, really not much room. And oh yeah, I believe me spraying PB on there and let sit for 10 minutes was helpfull.
