O-rings on shaft on the back of the opti?

On the shaft that sticks out of the back side of the opti there are 2 machined grooves. Is there supposed to be O-rings there?

That's not uncommon. They get brittle and die.

What do the o-rings seal/do. I didnt have any oil leaks or anything.

They aren't for oil control. The only thing I can figure is that they dampen/stabilize the end of that little stub on the opti drive.
