Not the usual Nitto vs BFG Drag Radial Question

Hey guys I've owned a pair(2) of Nitto 315/35/17 drag radials for over a year now, and I recently purchased a used pair(2) of BFG 315/35/17 drag radials also. Here's the question: My Nitto tires are definately right and left side tires. They say right or left on the tires themselves and they also have rotational arrows showing what side of the car they belong on. The BFG pair I just got are used, but when I was getting them ready to be mounted, I noticed that both of them do have "Mount this side in" labels on them, but they are definately NOT right or left hand tires If I go ahead and mount both the BFG tires as instructed, them the thread pattern will be "backward" on one of these tires when I put them on the car. Have any of you with BFG drag radials noticed this??? Or did I just get two right or left tires rather that one of each when I bought them used. TIA for any replies

I cant answer you question, but I have a question for you.

is that the best 60 you can get out of those 17" nitto DRs? I hve nitto drag radials on my Iroc and lo\ve them, and was thiinking of getting some 17" drag radials for my 95. but not if they wont work at all better then the regular gsc's. thanks and sorry for intruding on your post.

Chris, the 60' time shown in my sig is definately NOT the "best" you can do with Nitto drag radials, (thank god!) Keep in mind that I've only made about seven(7) total dragstrip passes with my car since the cam went in, and launching a 6 speed is always an adventure at Milan (our local) Dragway These tires are definately "stickier" than regular GSC's and with a little more practice I'm confident my 60' times will improve

Now, back to the original question about those BFG drag radials, do they make them in right AND left hand models, or do you just mount one side with the thread going "backward" ???

Again, TIA for ALL replies!

They are a right and left side tires and more than likely you may have a pair of left side tires. The right tire will wear out quicker becuase that is the first one to spin in a burnout. The guy you bought them from may have worn out two sets of rights and then sold you a pair of lefts with good tread left. You wouldn't have to install it "backwards" though, the one you install on the right would just have the words on the inside.

Gregg 97Z, yep that probably explains it!!! You just never know what you're getting into when you buy a USED set of drag radials I guess??? I knew the Nitto's came one right and one left to a pair, just wasn't sure about the BFG's?

You have given me one good piece of info though You say the right side tire wears out first because it spins first during a burnout. Sounds like I should mount the tire with the best thread on the right hand side, eh? Thanks again

I have a set of drag radials and i didn't know there was a right and left side, when i got them it said to mount them so one side was facing out but it didn't mention anything about a right or left side. Also i change them on and off all the time and never pay any attention to which one goes where and i have never had a problem with traction and with alot of burnouts they are both wearing prefectly even.

17 inch Nittos will hook well. Ive got 1.7 with 17inchers and a M6. Just have to HEAT them really well.

I have a set of BFGs and they do not say left or right either. In the summit and Jegs books they do not specify a certain number for either side either. Aren't BFGs just a universal left or right mount tire?

Okay, so now the debate continues??? How about you other BFG drag radial owners. Like I said earlier the two BFG's I bought used are identical tires, unlike my Nitto's which definately require that one be mounted with the "right" out on one side and the "left" out on the other side in order to preserve the directionally of the thread pattern. Can anyone else shed some light on this

actually bfg drag radials r just a prefered side in tire.they r the same tire for both sides.so if u think about it yes one tire will be facing the opposite direction of the other.the bfg kdws tire is also a prefered side in tire.they do that for wet weather purposes.u do not have 2 tires for the left/right.i work at costcos tire center and one of our main dealers is bfg and ive installed several pairs of these.uve got the right thing no worrys

Like said, left and right side tires have separate part numbers, like the GSC's for example. With the BFGs, the big thread blocks go to the outside, for whatever reason.

Cool

OK. Check it out ... It's easy to tell which side a tire goes on. The tread one side of the tire has bigger "blocks" than the other side. That edge with the bigger blocks goes toward the outside of the car. They provide stability and grip when cornering. Once you know this, you won't even have to read the sidewall to be able to tell the difference.

Those BFG drags are what is known as assemetrical meaning it dosent matter which side they are placed on unlike the Nitto's which are directional tires so long as the the side stating this side in or out is facing the right way...Hope that clears it up
