hey guys thanks for all the replys!! i knew not having headers would limit my performance with the cam. i plan on doing headers real soon, but im taking a trip back up north to CT (1200 miles) so i cant have the car tied up. when i get back im going to look for some long tube headers hopefully then i will notice a difference. i guess its just that i havent done anything to the car YET that i have actually felt a difference!! lots of people feel a difference with an intake!? i didnt! lots feel a difference with exhaust or a cutout....i didnt! so i figured the only way to actually feel a difference is going into the engine.

About 4 years ago I was in the same boat as you. I had decided to get the cam before the headers....it was a "so so" upgrade at best. After I got my shorties...OMG...what a difference. I'm not talking about .... I think it feels faster....that was a HUGE performance upgrade for me
now THATS what i like to hear!! thats how im hoping my car ends up! not that i THINK i feel a difference..... i want to KNOW there is a difference!!!!

I got macs first and noticed a assive gain. and also i had a cut out and off road y. Then i got my HOTCAM kit and 1.6 rr with the PCMFORLESS tuning. and hot damn, cars that would pull 3-4 on me, i now can drag. I am extremely happy with my set up.

Lt4 Hot Cam is about as mild of a cam as you can get...you should have gone w/ something more extreme

I had the hot cam put in a engine about 4 years ago. It was PATHETIC with out headers, gears and programing.
I also just dumped Ed Wrights program and had a dyno tune with LT1 edit and picked up 30rwhp.
With a 6sp, good traction and the other required mods you should be in the mid 12's. I think a 12 bolt and ET streets is a MUST for you.

Wow, that's pretty weird. I have a cam that's pretty similar to the Hotcam; let me tell you, it don't sound anywhere near stock! Goes like a cheetah on meth too; of course I have ported heads.

Everywhere i have read says you have to get the tuning for the hotcam. Pcmforless is a good start. I would try programming first. I'll be putting in my hotcam in the next couple of weeks, I'll let you know how it does. I have the program from Bryan at pcmforless ready to go with it. Also converting to the vented opti, so should be a fun job.

I have most bolt-ons including headers and an electric wp and was satisfied with the hotcam. PCMforLess tuning is deffinetly worth the money. My heads are only mildly ported in the valve bowls and I trap 107mph.

It's time for more now though, I'm in the process of picking out a new cam.

I had all boltons and absolutely no tuning (hypercrap) and trapped hi 108's and 109. That was with 3.73's and an M6.....completely untouched stock heads too.

I have stock programming, and everything in my sig (stock heads), and I trapped 106mph, possibility of trapping 107 if I drive it a little harder tuning I think will help my WOT in the higher rpms, may be running a little rich up top...thats my guess though with no diagnostic equipment..
definantly get some headers, you are choking the car w/ those stock manifolds especially if running the hot cam...I had LT's and ORY before the hotcam, once I installed the hot cam, woah!! what a differance at WOT...

Get some decent headers and report back with your results. Once you pull those stock boat anchor exhaust manifolds off and check out their ports you'll see why I am very happpy so far with the cam and it put down the #'s below on stock heads. I estimate I picked up 25-30rwhp from it based on the times I was running before it. I think the cam sounds great with 1 3/4 SLP single cat headers and the Borla, and I've gotten lots of compliments on the sound since installing it. It's nothing too radical but everyone that's heard it could definitely tell it's got a new cam in it

I know this has been said before but I know from experience. TUNING IS KEY. I dont know how much tuning is off with the hotcam but I had a huge cam in my old 3.8 V6 Camaro and it really woke up after I tuned the beast. My V6 was beating Lt1's motor to motor and hanging with stock LS1's. This was after tuning.

I also agree you need some headers.

From: that place nobody knows
my trap speed went from 98mph to 101.9 mph with just hooker shorties, 3" cat, Hooker cat back.

that's gotta be at least 25 hp

Tuning is a good idea>>

Back before I installed the Hot cam in the LT-1 in my Camaro my car was running consistent 104.xx MPH in the 1/4. I had SLP shorty headers and a cold air intake w/ a Hooker cat back.

After I put in the Hot cam, with stock tuning it ran consistent 107.xx MPH.

After I had the tuning done (by MustGoFaster Racing) the car went consistent 111.xx MPH.

I picked up 3MPH by installing the cam and using stock tuning, then a couple weeks later I got the PCM and the car picked up another 4MPH.

Get it tuned, and put some headers and a cold air intake on it.

Or if you want a REAL increase, do what I did and install a ZZ502 cam in it.
