not an LT1?...?'s about Jeep 4.0L

hey guys i know this isn't LT1 tech just wondering if anyone knows anything about the inline 6 4.0L jeep motors...my dads grand cheorkee gets pretty bad octane ping even on 89 octane...just wondering where u think we should start, it always runs at 210, i know lowering the temp would probably kill the detonation but he doesn't wanna change the stat....the timing is set to factory specs ect....it only calls for 87 octane but pings on 89...plugs and wires only have 12k miles on'em...any ideas, thanks guys

Go to http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/
I have swapped one of those in my old CJ, but I don't get any pinging. Maybe the plugs and wires need to be changed?
In any case the people at jeepsunlimited can surely help you, it is for jeeps what camaroz28 is for fbody's.

not to be harsh, but if you have to start out your post by saying "I know this isn't LT1 tech" thats a good sign that you should have posted this in the lounge...

If you are using "cheap" fuel, try switching to a better grade, e.g., 76. JMHO

Isn't the "Jeep" 4.0L 6cyl the last remnant of AMC? Ahh, good ol AMC.

Heck, the 4.0L is a great motor for the Wrangler though...... Should be a ton of info on it out there.
