is this normal?

just bought a '95 z28, fast as all hell...it outran my friends 70 camaro with a 383 stroker pushing 420 horses at the crank...i knew z's were fast, but this thing fly...it idles about 1050 rpm, which seems high, but it sounds like normal, im thinking it was rebuilt and had a bigger cam put in it (would explain the high idle) ...or do the lt1's just have a big cam that makes that kinda power?...btw, i know that horse power is accurate on my freinds because its outrun '03 cobras before, that are supposed to have about 410 horses i think....i think something has been done to this motor...going to the strip friday, ill post times or yall

Is it an auto or a six speed? From what I've read the autos will idle about 800 the six speeds 1000 to 1200 (correct me if I'm wrong folks)

well you could have a pretty good weight advantage over him, possibly a better geared car and just plain more technology.

remember all those old 300-400 hp small blocks and big blocks of the 60/70's were only turning out low 14/hi 13 second 1/4 mile runs.

what times does he run? anything can happen on the street.

a new cam is possible, but to outrun 400+ hp cars you would notice some cam lope i'd think.

run it and let us know...
