no start on fresh 355!!!!

hey guys,

i just finished my 355 and i got it to crank over..... i have 62 lbs of oil pressure and nothings ticking.... i cannot get any spark.... when i checked the injector pulse i didnt get any light..... so theres no spark at the coil... none at the spark plug...... and my opti has 8k miles..... i did install a MSD 6AL but i used the harness and it was so easy so i dont think i screwed that up.... what could this be....

if my dowel pin was too short and the opti wasnt enguaged.... there wouldnt be a singal from the opti... the pcm would take care of the injectors and the wouldnt be any spark right?

what do you think?

Re: no start on fresh 355!!!!

if i were you i would unhook the msd and hook the coil and opti up the normal way. msd boxes are notorious for acting up at times. ive had a 6a and a 6AL and they both were garbage. might not fix your problem but its something to try. a way to check to see if it is the opti without tearing the whole thing back down is to get another one if you have access to one and plug it up and hook the coil wire to it. turn your key on and spin the opti by hand. if it tries to start then you know its the opti

Unless you've converted to a vented opti dowel pin length is irregardless. '94 opti's are driven off the cam by a splined shaft. Unhook the MSD box, as stated already. I bet it's your problem.

I had the same problem at one point on my new motor.

Try unhooking the aftermarket ignition and runing the car off the stock setup. My problem turned out to be a bad ground for the ignition.

Also, check your ignition fuse in the box under the hood.

Does it keep cranking with no fire? Barely crank at all, etc? We need details.

Re: no start on fresh 355!!!!

the opti swap wire i got turned out to be the problem... the connector was the right one but 2 of the 4 connector pins were pushed into the plastic harness... making it unable to recive the hot from the computer to find the low and high res.

so i need a new opti harness

thanx for alll your help... let you know if it doesnt fix

Before buying a new one (they're freakin expensive), try to take a pair of needle nose pliers and by grasping one of the offending wires about 1/4" behind the connector, try to push the connecting pin out some. I had to do the same thing after wrestling my opti wire out of a car to do some diagnostics. It should push out and be usable again.

the EXACT same thing happened to me, but i had a slight connection and the car would crank but idle irractically. Eventually it wiggled its way out and the car wouldn't crank and I had the same readings and syptoms you said.

^ order the plug in from casper. Every where else is like 90$+
