No start after trans install

Just got done installing a rebuilt trans for the first time. Also just installed Mac headers while it was apart. Battery is good, starter and alternator both good. have power at starter but cant test the solenoid power because i have no help to turn the ignition while i test for power. No clicking noise, it just does nothing. Lights and everything else work. Checked ignition fuse under the hood and its not blown. Anything else to check or do I need to test the starter with someone turning the key?

Speed sensor on rear housing of trans got the wires cut so I spliced a new one on, didn't know if that would cause a problem. Also the trans that was in the camaro had P R N OD D 2 1 and the one i had rebuilt came out of my 95 TA that was P R N D 2 1

No start after trans install

What if you put it in neutral? Perhaps the neutral safety isn't making properly now. Just a stab in the dark, worth a look

Another vote for neutral switch wiring or adjustment. Some shifters had 1st gear (323 rear ends), but all of them had OD. 95 had P R N OD 3(D) 2 unless you had a 323, then you had P R N OD 3(D) 2 1. It is just a plastic tab in the shifter slot, transmissions were the same.

Did you have the starter or the wires to it off during the work? If so, did you put them back correctly?

Pretty sure they are right the only one that could be wrong is the solenoid because there are two small posts.unless it doesn't matter which one.

Does this sound at all like a vats problem?

I'm going to go out now and check everything. I'm swapping the positive wire from my TA to the Camaro because the three ends are clamped into a nw terminal which is junk to me. I'm checking all grounds then I will check the starter again then the plug under the dash for the vats to check that the key and cylinder have the same resistance.

How doing check the neutral safety switch?

Well its snowing to bad out but I did check all fuses and none are blown. Its weird because everything works except my interior rear view mirror lights.

Is there a starter relay?

Ok got it running. I feel like am idiot for something so dumb.

The aftermarket starter I bought had two small posts and the one does nothing an I accidentally put it on there.

GM #12157373, is this for the factory positive wire?

Thank you

Yes. Interesting...I thought that had long been discontinued. Guess not.

If the solenoid cap is marked, it is always the one with the "S" that the switch wire goes to.

Re: No start after trans install

I had a problem like that the other month ago. Somehow my computer on the passenger side firewall wasnt getting a good ground and it would skip or shut off when i hit bumps. and it would cause my car to not start at times until I wiggle it around for some time. Long story short i ran a ground strap to the computer and replaced the starter and its hasnt gave me a prob!!!
