Exclamation No spark condition...

O.K here is the sitiation...
I have been working on the car for some time and have recently tried to start the car, Well Tried is only part of it, but here is what has been replaced recently. I have replace the battery, New opti about a year old. new ECM about a year also. I just replaced the icm with one from american camaro and firebird (used for about 20.00). I have an msd blaster that I have had for about 3 years now. I tested the coil and the primary resistance showed to be 0.2 ohms and the secondary resistance was at 5.4k ohms The MSD website show the primary to be .45 ohms and the secondary to be 5.5k ohms. My problem is that I have no spark at the coil. But here is the ticker... Every once in a while it will kick in and start But only every once in a while. My thinking is that my primary resistance is too low and not allowing my coil to generate enough power to produce spark. I have tried to put my charger on the battery on the 50 amp setting to see if this would help kick it in the butt to get it started but it was unsuccessful. If anyone has any response to this then feel free to post or send email. Thanks.

Have you tried a new coil? They are a common failure item on these cars. Rather than measure the resistance, buy a spark gap tester (not to be confused with a spark gap checker used for setting plug gaps) and see if the spark is strong enough.

even the MSD blaster coils? I knew that the oem coils were no good, that's why I replaced it with the msd. I'll have to ckeck into the spark gap tester. Although I have noticed that I cannot always get spark from the coil. So checking the spark gap may not even be feasible. But thanks anyway for your input.

Re: No spark condition...

Well, if you're not always getting spark from the coil, you need to find out if it's getting the proper signal from the computer, or just try swapping it if you have a stock one or can borrow one.

A weak coil will sometimes only spark occassionally. Blown96WS6 had a similar situation where it would spark, but could not create the sparks fast and strong enough to start the car.

My next step then sounds like I need to check my computer signal and see if the module is getting the signal it needs. Thanks
