What year is your vehicle?

If it's a 93-97 then it's more than likely the opti-spark.

The opti-spark is always a problem with these cars because not only is it underneath the water pump, but it's a little behind it as well so even the slightest drop of water could kill it. Another thing that could go cause it to go bad is high reving.

Another thing might be your cap and rotor which are part of the opti as well (sort of).

I just replaced my opti roughly about two months ago and I can tell you this... They say it's suppose to be a 6 hour project, well I did mine in 2 (Ha).

If you want step by step instruction then I'll type them up for you, it's just a matter of if you have another opti lying around or not.

I, myself, have two brand new distributors because well.... You never know when it'll go out

Spark going into the opti and not coming out is probably a rotor failure.

i got the opti off and the rotor was in a million pecies. i put a rotor from a 94 on it and it missed at low rpm. the cap and rotor were new from gm but no longer under warranty. is there any place that sells just a rotor. thanks for your replys.

If your rotor disintegrated, who knows if it caused any damage to the rest of your opti. I would suggest you replace the whole thing, other than just getting a new cap and rotor.
