NO LUCK with my 383
NO LUCK with my 383
Well I've been plauged with issues with my 383 build...from stripped bolt holes on the powedercoated accessory bracket to loosing parts that i bought somewhere in my garage to this, that and the other thing. Well the newest delema i have now is as follows:
Engine shop who did my machine work and assembaly put the ati ballancer on my motor....I am ready to finish putting it together now so I have to take the balancer off the hub...simple right? 9 bolts hold it on it seems, 6 smaller torx and 3 larger ones. I think the sizes are 6 (T40) and 3 (T45), why ATI would port torx on insted of normal grade 8 bolts is beyond me...well i remove the 3 T45's fine...before I get to the smaller ones i see text that says torque 6 bolts to 16 ft/lbs...so I get the first small torx out, and WOW it was on tight...I hit the 2nd one, and break the torx socket...........i go get a new oneat the store...hit it agian and strip the hell outta the torx bolt......ok w/e sucks, i went on to the next one...SAME THING...and bent the HELL outta my brand new T40 3/8" socket...what now? Options please guys, worst design ever putting torx on a freaking harmonic ballancer, morons...

Re: NO LUCK with my 383
Unless an ATI is different the three large bolts hold the balancer to the hub. If so the balancer still will not fall off. Sometimes a light tap will pop it off, sometimes a little more is needed, some are not easy at all. Just don't mess it up, be patient. As for the other bolts, put the ones back in w/ a LITTLE locktite. If you want to remove the stripped ones bring me the balancer, I can prob do semething. good luck
Re: NO LUCK with my 383
I agree, unless the ATI is different. It should only be those 3 bolts which may require some tapping as mentioned.
Hang in there. It'll be worth it. i can only wish I had a 383 to drop in my car.

Re: NO LUCK with my 383
Nick call me at the shop this morning, I am there until Noon.
I know its not a Victory build, but I'm sure I can help walk you through it.
As you can see here the factory unit and the ATI are different. The ATI has 9 bolts in all, 3-3/8" 12pt bolts and then 6-torx head bolts. What he is saying is that he has stripped a couple of the torx bolts. My thoughts here are that the wrong loctite was used on them.
