No CATS OR CATS

Does anyone know what kind of gains you get with no cats on your vehicle?

I have 96 Lt1 with dual cat system

You seem to be hung up about cats. There is little to no power to gain by removing them. The muffler is more restrictive than the cat(s).

I noticed more stink and more noise before putting it back the way it belongs, that's about it.

I find it hard to believe that the stock cats don't restrict horsepower. I would imagine at least 5 hp. How many stock cats are high flow?

The question was asked about a dual cat system. They were less restrictive than the previous single cat version.

Re: No CATS OR CATS

Im aware of the dual cat system supp gaining 10hp over the single cat as I have a 96 z28. I'm about to intall headers and catless y pipe. I would think at 91000 miles gains would be made removing those clogged up rusty things! Just an educated guess, I will find out soon. Prob going to be annoyingly loud.

John Lingenfelter was building emissions legal 383ci LT1's, producing over 400HP at the crank. This was back in 95. He claimed the stock single-cat produced less than 5HP loss on that engine. He used the stock components to aid in getting the 383 certified for emissions.

Re: No CATS OR CATS

'97 here with no cats. When I went to headers, I replaced the cat for a bullet muffler. Actually, I had a high flow cat in for a bit after the headers but switched it out for the heck of it. Sounds good and the smell isn't bad at all. ...and if there is any restriction from a cat I don't need to worry about it.
