No Cat, still need AIR Pump?

Hey guys, I gutted my cat today (Best thing I ever did to the car) and I was wondering: Since the AIR pump exists to help the cat from wearing out quickly, do I still need one without the cat?

Nope. Go ahead, get rid of it and make your engine bay look cleaner.

Yes, you can get rid of it. The air pump pumps air into the exhaust to ignite unburned exhaust gasses, doesn't help the cat in any way. The air pump and all hoses and tubes can be removed. Make sure you plug off all spots on the headers/exhaust manifold as well as the one on the cat.

The air pump pumps air into the exhaust to dilute the exhaust on cold startup, not to ignite unburned exhaust gas. It's made specifically for the cats, and nothing else.

There also is no fitting on the catalytic converter for the AIR lines. The air is injected at the top of each exhaust manifold. The tubes and check valves should be very visible.
