Nittos drag radials in rain maybe snow?
Nittos drag radials in rain maybe snow?
I was taking into consideration buying nittos 245/16 drag radials but my mechanic said that they hold like **** in rain. My car is a daily driver so I will drive in rain and some snow days. Should I buy these tires or what? I just need some good grip in "red light" racing....
A few years back a friend got caught in a freak down pour while on his Drag Radials. He hit a lage puddle, lost the back end and it cost thousands to repair the car. This guy was a very accomplished drag racer, and was no stranger to regular driving either at 30+ years of age.
That was enough to convince me to stay away from dr. I wouldn't even consider them in snow.

i have the 275/50-15s on mine. their fine in the rain. i normally can cruise down the freeway at almost regular speed. of course mine havent been broken in good yet
as with any tire, when the tread wears, the traction will be scarce in slippery conditions.
as far as snow. hell no. i went to work yesterday in the morning with fine weather. started snowing around 2PM. when i got off at 7, the roads were completely covered. i had several close calls, never got up above 20mph, and it took me almost 2 hours to get home whereas i normally do it in about 30 min.
THERE IS NO TRACTION AT ALL IN THE SNOW!!! PERIOD!!

Mine work fine in the rain as long as you drive sanely. They're not going to hold WOT springs in the rain.
They do go in the snow a bit too, depending on how hard it is and how much there is. But I wouldn't count on driving in it. I mean, I am sometimes able to get out of my parking lot and up my cleared driveway when there is snow on the ground.

Damn Trey, that suck about your car man! Did that just happen??
As far as DR's go, get them. They are fine in the rain when you drive normally, I didn't really notice a difference from them cause I drive totally different in the rain than when it's dry. Wet roads are not to be taken lightly with any car and I don't take my chance cause you never know what can happen, so just be safe. I have driven in the snow with my DR's once and that was on the way to the sears to get some all season tires put on the back. Let me tell you that it wasn't too fun, not recomended. All in all, wait till you know that it's not gonna snow anymore and then get the DR's, you'll be fine trust me.

In the snow? forget about it. I was stranded in Seattle last year when we had our anually snowfall-night.
In the rain? NO PROBLEMS. Keep it at/under 60mph and you'll be fine.
I put 20,000 miles a year on my Trans Am convertible, and shift with a Street Twin clutch.
I've had nothing but 555R's in the rear for the past 2 years and drive in the rain A LOT.
(hey, this is Seattle).

I have Nittos and they are harry in heavy rain.....do not go faster than 50mph in heavy rain ....and thats with 75% or more tread. If you have less than 50% tread forget about it. As for snow.....no way no how.
I ran 315 nitto's with about 30% tread on mine in the rain fine, and in the snow some. Yes, they are a lot worse than a regular street tire, but if your careful then its ok. Traction control was a big help also. Although, I did go to some 275 goodyear eagle F1's and they grip so much better on wet pavement and in the snow, but as soon as the snow is off the ground then back to the nitto's. Just be safe and try to get another set of tires for the winter.
