Nightrain66 Need Your Help
I have a question for you. I have a 96 SS A4 that i will be putting a comp cams xe230/236 on a 114 lsa cam in. I plan to have you do the head work for me. When i get ready to do this. My question is. A good friend of mine has a set of 93 heads casting #10123374 That i was going to get.To send to you To have reworked. When i do the rest of this set up. I was wanting to know if these heads will work on my 96? As i was thinking that the 93 heads are better for porting. But wasn`t there some other differances in the 93 heads. Compaired to the 96 heads? Or should i just stay with the 96 castings? Please let me know everything i need to on this matter as i am gathering everything i need and getting ready to do this. Befor much longer. If the 93`s are what i need i am going to go ahead and pick them up.If not i will look elese where for 96 castings. Thanks For Your Time. Mike...........
i'm not Lloyd but i will butt in neway
most people prefer the pre '96 castings for porting, they seem to have more material that can be removed or left for thickness
there is also a rumor around that '92-'93 heads are even better then '94-'95 heads.....i have no proof of that tho
yes those heads will work fine on your '96

Yes that is what i was thinking. But i may be wrong on this one but i also thought there were other differances in the 93 heads compaired to the 96 heads.I was thinking i read it some where on here once befor. Or in a LT1 book I just want to make sure. Before i slam all kinds of money in the 93 heads and they are not the better choice or differant in a negative way for my set up.Thanks. Mike.........
93 heads work on all years & vise versa, trust me I had a 93 Trans AM & I put 97 heads on it & put the 93 heads on a 95 LT1, the 93 heads do have more material I've asked porters in the past, they are also a different part number all together & you can't get them from GM anymore. They are a straight bolt on, except for the fact that you'll have more meat for porting
Most 93 head guys want to hang on to them just cuz they can say they still use LT1 heads & be able to port more.

96,
I agree with everything that is written in this post.
All of them will interchange and work on your LT1.
The 97 model (561 castings) are thinnest and have less meat than ALL of the other LT1's. They actually flow better than the other LT1 castings in stock form but can't be opened up as much.
All other LT1's are basically the same. The 374's do seem to be a lil thicker, more centered and have the least amount of core shift from what I have seen. When you have a good, centered 374 casting with very little core shift, you can usually get a lil more out of them than the other castings.
All in all, the difference is VERY minimal though and I would just stay away from the 561's. There is very little HP difference in the potential of the other castings.
