Nightmare Story

When I felt my car missing under load one day, i found out that my opti was shot, and I needed new plugs and wires. The entire job came to about $1100. I coughed up the money, I knew i'd only have to do this once for the period i'd have my car. 1 month goes by, i'm driving down the road and bang pop, my car starts to backfire like crazy, and i lose power, and then it dies out and won't start. Well it turns out that when I had the opti replaced a month ago, they only replaced part of the opti, and not the actual distributor. So what happened was that the bearing on the distrbutor locked up and fried everything that was just done a month ago!, so now i have to get the entire job done again
What the heck! Any comments or opinions out there?

Man, that really sucks If I was in your situation, I'd take one day out the weekend and do it myself. You can find countless tech articles on how to do it on here I'm sure, just search. IMO, it's not worth another 1100. After all, I saw a guy change one at thunder racing dyno day in about 1 hour when his went out. Good luck with whatever happens.

$1100, what a f***ing rip! I got a quote from Auto zone for the parts: Optispark - $71.99, Cap & Rotor - $119.99, Irridium spark Plugs $47.92, Plug wires $24.99. TOTAL = $264.89. Alot of places charge an arm and a leg for simple repairs! Jst last week my serpentine belt popped off because my tensioner was shot. The tension cost around $40 and the belt $20. I took it to a garage because I was out of town on vacation and did'nt know where I could borrow some tools, nor did I have the time to find them. I ended up taking it to a sho where they charged me an outrageous $174, for 10 minutes of work! if you can do it yourself DO IT! There are some honest garages out there but alot of them are crooked corner cuttin', penny pinchin' sum bitches

You can do the opti in a day if you have some wrenches and sockets...you'll need a gear puller to. I have a friend who shouldn't be allowed to touch cars and he managed to get it done.

Call Jason Cromer, order a new opti, and do it yourself. It's a VERY easy job, and you'll save hundreds. Paying as much as you did for what was most likely new plugs and wires along with a cap and rotor change is ridiculous.

If you do it yourself, your total investment will be <$300 for everything.

for about 600 he could get the delteq system also, which from what I hear is a very straightforward install and takes under 2 hours.

Really where can you buy those? Are they better the the AC delcos I bought? I should consider those for the future.

www.ls1speed.com has them. I'm not sure if they're better than AC Delco, but they work great in mine and thousands of other fbodys.
