Yuck!, have you tried to take off the belt and than turn it off. This should eliminate some of the accessories.

What timing chain did you go with?

Sounds like something metallic rattling on the crank or something. How about dipstick or it's tube? Maybe the flywheel inspection plate rubbing? Windage tray?

It actually sounds almost like some sort of combustion reaction going on, like a popping sound one might get from their exhaust when the mixture's not igniting all the way.. Hmm.. But it is a video so it's hard to get the exact sound downfrom here, maybe something is physically rubbing or hitting as well

Put the car on a lift, start it, jack it up so you can stand under it, put on some leather gloves and start pushin ****... just start probing, try to see if you push something "like this" then the noise goes away.

That's what I had to do, anyway.

hard to tell but it doesn't sound really hollow enough to be an exhaust part...I would probably sniff around in the engine compartment while someone turns it off for you and see if you can pinpoint the sound...I had an A/C line rattling on the frame.

jsut something i thought of. I saw on a previous post that you said that you tuning was not good. Someone previous said that it might be some fuel not egnighting; thus, it makes me thing that it might be because you haven't tuned the 306 yet and that is your problem. Jason

My car has done this from day one when I bought it new. Had it checked under warranty twice and no one could find out the problem. One day I posted about this and was told by one person that some of the cars get this and no one has found a cure or knows exactly what is causing it. There is one thing that will stop it from doing it though (if in fact you have the same problem as me), when you shut off your car press the clutch in and then turn it off (while still holding the clutch in) and it shouldn't do it.

yup, it worked. If I hold the clutch when i turn the car off, it doesnt do it. Are there any REAL fixes for the problem?
Thanks
Marcin

Not that i know of. I am still on my stock clutch (75K) and haven't had any problems so I don't think it's a cause for any concern, just annoyance. Like you though, I sure would like to figure out a permanent cure cause even though I have learned to live with it, it still sounds ghetto.

The most obvious place to look though would be the clutch assembly. When I change out my clutch I will be sure to carefully examine everything as I pull it out to see if I can pinpoint why it does this.

Maybe loose springs in the clutch or floppy throw out bearing. Or something to do with the tranny input shaft.

Test how little pedal pressure causes the noise to stop.

i'm no expert but to me it sounds like engine internals coming to a halt after the wind down from being shut off. like a chain or gears (as in drive gears not your rear end ratios )

but again, i'm no expert.
