next mod

i read an artice on the web about Lt1 bolt ons (i have 97 m6 152k mi)and these seem pretty tame but effective -CAI,MAF,THRTL BDY,PLUG WIRES-car craft put these on a used engine nd since i just got this car after 3 previous owners this is what i am doing,we put on a k&n Cai yesterday and it seems fine the plug wires go on tommorrow, since i can only do 1 a week which of the MAF(52mm granatelli) or bbk thrtl bdy should be next and will having someone else tune it be needed or should i get the hand held deal and do it?

Don't waste your money on a tb or maf right now.You should go with headers and a catback, cold air intake,1.6nsa rrs, valve springs, and a mail order or dyno tune. You should also do the plugs whial your doing the wires. And wou might want to bypass the skipshift on your m6 if it hasen't been done yet.

I agree with henry, get to the exhaust before you do a tb or maf. Get the biggest stuff out of the way before you do the tune so you dont have to have it retuned after a few mods.

Ditto. A throttle body, is a waste of time. And a MAF may show gains temporarily. The stock MAF is not a flow restriction at, or anywhere near, your power level.

Basically, a MAF, Pulleys, and Throttle Body, are all pretty useless to you right now. Even if your car is making some serious power, the MAF, and Pulleys are still a waste. Little gain. And the MAF makes it significantly more challenging for tuners to work with when they're adjusting your PCM for you.

Go with Pacesetter Coated long tube headers, Off-Road Y Pipe, and a GOOD cat back like a GMMG, Loud Mouth, Borla, Corsa, ETC. DO NOT get a Flowmaster.

Once your done with the exhaust, I say throw in some quality valve springs and 1.6 Roller Rockers, upgrade the studs to 7/16" studs, and get springs that will later support a cam if you think your going to go that way. I put 918 Comp Bee Hive springs in, ran them for about 1000 miles, and then put the cam in.

Also, if your going to stay bolt-on only, a tune from PCMforless or MADz28 is definatly worth the money.

You can put on a set of headers yourself. It doesn't really take much technical know-how, just a little patience and either a lift or a jack that will get the car as high in the air as possible. I agree with everyone above, a MAF is a waste of money. It makes a power increase by leaning your mixture out a little bit and after a while the PCM will learn to compensate and that power increase will be gone. All you have then is a car that's hard to tune.

Well, barter or pay for header install if you can't do it yourself. Still shouldn't cost much more than your MAF + TB idea. It takes a while, but maybe one of the mechanics can do it in his own garage. I bet you can talk somebody into it somehow. Cash, mow his lawn for the summer, I dunno..............you got a seeester?

lol I love the seeester comment.

^ But in the event that you actually do have one, and you live within driving distance of Pittsburgh, I'll help you work on the car for every hour with her heheh.

to let you know, it will be easier for the mechanics to do plugs/wires with headers on, i dont think they understand the wire job is like normally quoted 2-3hours from a shop
