Question Next Mod

So, i did the basics...

CA Intake,
P&P Heads,
LT Headers,
1.6 RR's,
3" Exhaust all the way,
Removed both Cats,
LT4 Hotcam,
Computer Tune,

And i think i'll be in the low 13's with this set up.
New tires, i might even dip into the high 12's.

I am not putting on Slicks, and not spraying, anyone got advice for my next mod?

Re: Next Mod

A4 (3.73)
M-6 (4.10s)

If you have the $$, definitely a 12 bolt.

With traction and your mods, I can see a mid 12 easy, esp if A4 (M-6 too if you can shift).JMHO

Re: Next Mod

Not slicks, but if you ran some drag radials you would not be taking quite the risk but getting more traction.

I am in the same situation. My clutch is going in soon, then I will probably need a stupid rearend. Certainly before I put tires on it.

Question Re: Next Mod

Looks like the rear end would be my next idea.

12 bolt? What do you mean...?

Which is the best rear end out there, brand wise, Yeah its a 97 A4.

Also, what will the 12 bolt do for me?

Re: Next Mod

The 12 bolt will weigh a lot more, and take away several horsies. Also it will be pretty hard to break without some insane power. 12 bolt is refering to the rear end. Stock is a little bitty 10 bolt. 12 bolt is huge and much stronger.

10 bolt "can" last a while with an a4 and sticky tires. I know people that spray "for a while" on et streets and stock 10 bolts. Most people will eventually break it though. I know my day is coming.

Re: Next Mod

As you add power traction becomes more of an issue. As you add more traction stuff begins to break. Always the weakest link, and the 10 bolt is one of the first ones to go after stock clutch. (N/A for you because of a4)

Re: Next Mod

10 bolt stock 7.5 gears, while 12 bolt has about 8.5" and much stonger. Of course you won't need the 12 bolt unless you do hard launches with the kind of traction that goes with sticky tires and a 12 bolt will set you back at least a couple grand. Going with a larger converter will give you more torque, but there again, if you put it to the ground on hard launches you are jeopardizing your 10 bolt rear end.

So if you just intend to do rolling launches once in awhile, I'd advise going with GM OEM 3.73 gears with Solid Pinion spacers instead of crush sleeves and call it good to go. Not much point in going with a 12 bolt unless you get into serious HP and hard launches. Going with the lower gears will increase the torque and improve your 1/4s, while the solid splacers will strengthen your rear end a bit (and they cost like nothing). JMHO

Re: Next Mod

So your saying upgrade my rear end to a 3.73, and add spacers. And leave it alone for a while?
