Newbie here - Catback help!

Hey everyone,

96 Z28, looking to upgrade my stock exhaust and have been been contemplating between a Magnaflow and SLP Loudmouth. Two questions, hopefully somebody has experience with either or both -- is one or are they both emission legal? I live in VA. How loud is SLP when compared to Magnaflow? I have read articles that claimed SLP can be none less than annoying, obviously a matter of personal preference, just thought I try and get another perspective or two. Thanks!

They are both legal, and yes the "Loudmouth" can be annoying. If you are a stereo guy, you probably won't like it. I would recommend the Hooker system. It has a great sound and only gets loud when you get on it.

you forgot to put the word shoebox in your thread title .........j/k......

I've had acouple different catbacks and a friend of mine has been running the loudmouth for about a year(I don't think its annoying). So far my favorite sounding and seemingly best performing has been the true duals that dump before the axle; which are on there now. And when I get on it, everybody knows it!!

Re: Newbie here - Catback help!

the design of the magnaflow actually directs over half of the exhaust flow directly out the passenger side tailpipe, without any baffleing or sound reduction, the rest of the flow goes throught he muffler. this is why it flows so well ad sounds so nice.

i say magnaflow

on a car with stock cats in place it is a VERY nice tone, particularly when driving at highway speeds. you know its there, but you can carry on normal volume conversations too. yet it still screams at WOT

Is that for me? If it is, thanks, but I have to admit, I use his website all the time and I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as he is on LT1's .

Re: Newbie here - Catback help!

I know someone in VA that got a ticket for having the Loudmouth on his car, with stock cats and everything, no headers. VA is really screwed up with exhaust laws, I think its anything other then stock is illegal. My advise then would be to go with the 2OTL as it was a factory option, not to mention is sounds GREAT!! But I'm partial

I'll have to vote in for Magnaflow.

I just installed a catback on my girlfriends car, real decent sound but the coolest thing to me was the secondary exhaust hangers. Made aligning the tips a breeze.

Hooker is also nice.
