Newbie!

I bought my TA for $7900 with 68,000 miles. Two days later I blew the clutch out. After I put in and broke in the new clutch, I broke the rear end.
Since then the car just keeps getting faster and faster as I break parts and upgrade them with stronger parts.

We have a car guy here, a honda owner that accually knows that a muffler and intake are not worth 25 hp. The si is not a bad car though. With a engine back exhaust and intake a lt1 gains around 30-40 hp. Welcome to v-8 world, where horsepower and torque comes cheap well, untill you dive into the shortblock and drivetrain.

LOL, yes I am proud to say that I am not a ricer! I bought my Si and I still like the car, but it isn't worth what my payment is a month, and I know I could have a whole lot more car for less.
I wasn't willing to dump 3-4 thousand on a built engine and turbo, I don't know enough nor does nyone else around my parts to safely do it and tune it.
I think a Fbody Lt1 would make me really happy! Eventually i wouldn't mind dropping in a crate engine or something along those lines (have to research ALOT) but that is WAY in the future! For now I just want a nice and quick daily driver that I can easily afford!

i paid 5900 for my 97, with 107,000 miles, leather, power seats, power windows, power locks, automatic, keyless entry, aluminum 5 point rims. the only thing it doesn't have is T-tops. and it runs awesome and looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor.
and my friend just got a 98 (i know, i know it's an LS1) with 90,000 miles NO options at ALL, for 7200. i wouldn't like not having anything power.
but that's good for him cause it's gonna be a race car.
8000 will get you a NICE lt1. just educate yourself on them a whole bunch before putting any money down, to make sure you're getting a good deal.

Re: Newbie!
At one point, over a year ago, I had found a SilverLS1'd Camaro (dont remember which year) and had the guy talked down to under 8K (he offered it to me for exactly what he was getting for it on a trade in to a dealer). So, keep looking and dont hurry too much and you'll find something

Oh I won't rush into anyhting this time! And like I said it will probably take some time to sell my car and get a loan on a new car!
I am not really particular on any color or transmission, I would like to have a MT but it really doesn't matter, but I most definitly want a V-8!

Where are some good websites or magazines to purchase Lt1 Camaro & TA parts? (Exhaust, CAI, Wheels, Exterior/Interior Accessories)
Also, what kinda maintenience (sp?) do these cars require? I mean at what # of miles do you change what (ex: timing belt, spark plugs, valve adustments.....?) Like I said I am really unfamiliar with this type of engine and I want to keep it running for a long time!
What kinda gas should I run? 93 octane is highest I can go.
Fully Synthetic Oil?
I would also like to use the "Z-Max" engine restorer, I have no personal experience but I have heard from alot of people it works great on a higher mileage engine. Should I use it?

Also I went and got a quote for insurance and on a 1996 Z28 with full coverage (the works) and an alarm, it is around $20 less than what I pay for my Si! That was a big relief I was afraid it would have been alot more!

thats sweet that its less than your si. you probably shoudln't listen to me but it seems that a few people out here do the same thing. you change the oil and such but mostly wait till something breaks and then put in a new better than stock part. one bad things to look out for are cars before 95 have an unvented optispark, look it up thier are a millions posts about it. valve adjustments are not done like in hondas i wouldn't worry i have 150k on mine and havn't touched them. for parts i would look at any supporting vendor on this website, they are all good and if you see more than one company for the same part do a search about it on here and you will see a bunch of comments on each one. we have a timieng chain that shouldn't need to be replaced. spark plugs are a biatch to do but once you do them you shouldn't need to replace them for thousands of miles, i did mine for the first time at 120k. they reccomend high octane fuel because it is a high compression motor, 93 will be fine. synthetic or not its your preference, look up oil on the search someone has dyno results of different oils, i have used restore in the past and seen nothing wrong so try zmax. you will absolutly love the car when you get it no matter how much it costs you, trust me it will cost you, speed and power are drugs very addictive and very costly. trust me thier is nothing like hitting the gas in an american v8
