Newbie!

Well I am a noob as everyone can tell but hopefully I can become a new Lt1 owner!

I have a 2000 civic si now which is costing more than I wanna spend. Around $600 an month (car payment and insurance)

The insurance alone is about $225 a month.

I have been looking at the Fbody Lt1 (93-97) alot and really like them! I want to get somehting with less than 100k miles and will be dependable but still decently quick with a few mods (CAI, Headers, Exhaust w/cats, Chip?, and maybe some nice suspension.) I kinda wanna keep it simple on the outide too!)

But anyway I would like to spend around $8000 or less for a Camaro or trans-Am 1993+ with a V-8 and less than 100k miles. I know it is possible but I wanna get one in good shape. What are they going for with say 75k miles in good shape?

Also what do you 20-22 year old insurace run a month, would it be alot more than my Si's on say a 95-96 Camaro or Trans-Am?

I am 20 with no tickets or anyhting, perfect record!

First, welcome.

Second, insurance is high no matter what kind of sportscar the 20 year old has!! Just keep checking on ebay and in the thrifty nickel for a good deal.. I don't think you are asking too much to get a good F-body for around 8K.

Good luck!

Yeah, insurance will still be kinda high. I got my car for $8200 w/ like 85,XXX miles on it. I had to have it though bein' it's a 30th Anniversary. You should be able to find them cheaper most likely.

Well the cheaper the better, lol as long as it will last a while!

I realize the insurance will still be high, but i can't go much over what I pay now, i mean if it was around the same or less, that would be great. I would think so too on an older car even though it is a sports car!

Getting a good LT1 is more of a hit and miss deal. Keep in mind that the electronics in these cars are the most unreliable part, and that strange noises, hard starting, etc., can be clues to problems that could get bigger. These cars don't show signs of wear very well, so a decent test drive is a neccessity.

Since the LS1s own the show now, picking up a good condition LT1 for under 8k should be no problem at all. I traded my 6er in for one in Aug, 6500 was what i paid. Mine gives me problems all the time, but it just gives me an excuse to upgrade.

If you can, get a 6 spd. (I couldn't find one cheap )- They generally hold their value better over time because people are always looking for them.

And your first mod should be subframe connectors. The first time you go over some railroad tracks you'll know why. And intake and exhaust work can really help a lot, too, since there's a lot of cubes that are sucking up air, and GM didn't give it enough space to work with (stupid noise laws ).

Well I wouldn't mind a manual or an automatic, but I think i would be happier with an 6spd!

Also I am not sure what you meant by the noise laws but I don't have to worry about that or anything else (no emmisions or anyhting) cause I live in KY and they don't give a **** aobut anyhting, lol!

I got my 94 for 6k w/ 69k on it at a dealer. My friend just picked up a clean 93 Formula for 5k with 88k on it, I think.

If it's of any help I just bought a 94 z28 for $4250
It was in really good condition. only a few minor problems. It had 109000 miles though.

8000 is more than enough for a decent fbody

The noise laws for new vehicles produced, regarding intake and exhaust noise, really. Since the engines that come in Z28s are relatively very large compared to other vehicles of similar size, the intake and exhaust are pretty choked up. Magazines have quoted 10-15 rwhp for intake 5-12 rwhp for exhaust.

also if the exhaust and intake would really produce those kinds of #'s, I wouldn't know what to do cause my Si probably wouldn't make 3-4 whp off of a full I/H/E combo!

Man I am getting anxious now, lol.
