Newb Spark Plug Help Needed

How much easier will this get if I remove the exhaust manifolds? I'm thinking about putting headers on at the same time.

Also, assuming that the headers are a good idea, any other mods/preventative maintenance that would be reccomended while I'm down there?

With my long tube headers, I can probably do all the plugs in about 30-40 minutes. It simplifies things to a great extent. It wouldn't hurt to do wires along with it.
