ive got some questions. im a new owner, so i know just some basic stuff about my 96 z28 (5.7L). first, whats the HP rating on it? i dont know if this is close, but im guessin around 300? also, it runs hot. when cruising, it stays close the the mark b/t the middle/ideal temp mark and the overheating mark. and when sittin at stop lights it starts heatin up more. is this normal, or do i need to flush the radiator or what? theres also some minor rattling goin on in places, so where is a recommended place to take it to get that fixed?

Your car is rated at 275 HP. A new thermostat will make the car run cooler, flushing the cooling system will be good so you may as well do it anyways.

 

HP rating= 270-275 or worse depending upon mileage


It runs hot...get the Coolant changed and install a new lower degree thermo...or try bleeding out the Coolant system first. It should be a tick below the center mark...that's average.

minor rattling goin on in places--common... These cars have allot of chassy vibration and bolts and things tend to loosen up. Main bolts..(exhaust) since you have Borla. I have the same and I'm tightening bolts every other day.

 

A 160* stat + tuning will help your car to run cooler...
