It sounds like you're used to flooring the pedal all the way from a stop. This will just spin the tires and pull the car to the right.
I stomp on it about 1/2 way then feather to full throttle as fast as my tires can handle it. It takes some time to get good, but you'll get the hang of pretty quickly.

I just got a 95 Z-28 also. I haven't had the chance to give it hell yet but since it has 2.73 gears I imagine all it'll do is light them up. I went from a 96 3.8 Camaro.(but I also have a 350 S-10 which is pretty quick), but I'm sure the Z-28 will amaze me, especially with some mods. But that's not as amazing as my 4.3 S-10(which has over 176,000 miles) pulling the trailer over 400 miles and the car and trailer back another 400 in less than 22 hours. And I didn't have faith in it and it ran perfect the whole way.

With those puny 2.73 gears you will probably hook. With the 3.23's just get a new set of tires and practice launching.
