New water pump leaking (duralast brand)

Hey guys my new water pump is leaking from the bottom around the pipe outside. Is there a way to push it in or should I just get a replacement from AutoZone.

it leaks after a few minutes of running but here's a pic

I saw the same problem on another site last month. I'll ask the guy what he ended up doing.

Returning it under warranty would probably be the best. His only had a few hundred miles on it, but it’s a few years old.

94Z28LS1toLT1,

RED ALERT !! A leaking water pump can wreck your costly Optispark in a minute! D.A.M.H.I.K.
Replace the pump, even if the seller won't take it back. (They should, though.)
Protect the Optispark with rags and plastic sheet when you do the work.

I have never had a Duralast WP that did not fail very soon, IMHO they are bottom tier parts. Free lifetime replacement is your time every time it fails.

I have had better luck with NAPA "new" (read not rebuilt) WP's when I need a mechanical

Have had a Meziere EWP for 20+ years now and 90k mi...YMMV

How much of a pain is the wiring for the electrical pump? You can just remove the drive coupler, or do you need to remove the drive shaft and seal the timing cover?

Is it leaking where the pipe goes into the WP or where the hose/clamp goes over the pipe?

Wiring the EWP is simple. You will need to add a relay/fuse that works with key on engine running. There are several write-ups. Buy this

LT1 Water Pump | IW

You just remove the coupler for EWP, no need to remove the drive gear itself

You use the stock WP housing but if the tube leaks on the donor, it will also on the EWP so use a WP case that the tubes don't leak

Since the motor no longer drives the mechanical WP you do pick up some HP but for me it was to stop the chronic mechanical WP's pissing on the opti.

I was skeptical that a EWP on a street car would last so I bought a spare to keep in the trunk in case mine fails as I assume it will like any moving part at some point. Have had the spare in the trunk for over 18 years now and at some point when the installed Meziere fails I will swap it out which will only take a few minutes as the access screws are easy. Meziere will rebuild the EWP for $100 so that one will be come my "spare"
