Good Job!!!! I can appreciate something like this, doing a swap on something that usually no-one thinks of. I know they've put 5.0L engines in Volvo's before, but this is one swap that really stands out in my eyes.
So, we want #'s. What'll she do at the track? We wanna know!!!!
"Volvos, yeah they're boxy, but they're good". Taken from a Dudley Moore film with Daryl Hannah, don't remember the name of the movie though.

Thank you for all of the compliments!
Let me try to answer some of your questions:
1)
A) All the go of a Camaro, while being able to haul a couch or 6 friends. When was the last time you did something practical with you car? How many tickets do you think a cop would give me?
2)
A) Unfortunately I had to run off to grad school, just as the car was finished. (actually, I had to finish the car before I could go to school!) I'm planning on taking it to the track when I get back to Oregon in June 2004. However, based on the vehicle weight, nearly Identical to a '96 firebird, I would imagine that it will run similar times to a '96 LT1/4L60E Camaro or Firebird.
3)
A) The engine compartment is HUGE.
The only two tight spaces are right at the firewall. The 4L60E is wider, longer than the volvo tranny, meaning I had to massage the firewall with an 8lb. sledge. And, the frame rails of the volvo get narrower near the firewall. This makes for a tight fit for the exhaust. I had to have the manifolds machine to bring the exhaust flanges 1/2" closer to the block.
4)
A) I like the Volvo's for comfort and durability, but power is seriously lacking. This car replaces my '73 maverick (302) and is about 10 times more fun to drive.
take care,
simon

That is a good job. Looks like you had lots of room. I saw a LT1 in a Nissan that was a much tighter fit.

Very nice!! I like it I had a volvo for my first car and hated it.
take care,

My friend in High school did the same thing. He had an old wagon that his parents gave him and in rebellion we blew up the stock engine within the first week. Well, his father said, "Son, you're on your own to fix it!!" Thanks Dad!! We went to a junk yard and found a sweet L98 to drop in it with the 700R4 tranny. After blowing out two rearends, we finally found the third memeber from a 760 turbo and that worked great.
If I can remember, the best time that car ran was a 12.40 on 7 inch wide 225/70r15 tire!! LOL!!!
Well this started an whole myrad of conversions. We bought junk old cars and dropped V8s into them. I bought an Orange Pinto and shoehorned a stroker 351W into it. With nitrous and some Old School hand ported heads I ran a 10.22@126 with a shot of gas and 10" slicks. That got me an "A" in shop.
Love the car... brought back some kickass memories.

Good work...really nice. I have thought of something like that, fun that someone has done it....
(About volvos and why people drive them, my friend drives a 745 gl and it got 600 000 miles on it now....nothing and I mean nothing has been done to the engine internally or trans...just oil and filter changes....no oil change in the gearbox since that's not needed...he also hauls a rally car now and then with it...changed a water pump and some chocks and springs that's about it....talk about durable..but...there's a but
they do look like bricks and are cind of booring...I know since I drive one too)
