New Times: Great Work by Gearhead Garage in Gilbert AZ!!

Started about 2 months ago when I found 2 broken exhaust manifold bolts on my 94Z28 6 speed. Decided to pull the heads and then to buy Jet Hotted Macs. Ended up taking the car to Matt Diamond at Gearhead Garage because I didn't have enough time.

Matt did a great job. Put in the MACs with Stage 8 bolts and also put in a cutout downstream of the stock CAT. Also replaced Opti and Waterpump and put in Taylor OVC wires.

Previous best at 1250' alt (Phoenix) was 14.06 at 98 mph. My son and I went to Firebird last night. Not great conditions, probably around 80F. First run I finally broke 14 and 100, ran 13.95 at 101. My son didn't launch well, but ran a 14.06 at 103 (he's 50 pounds lighter). I had a good launch (2.11 60 foot with worn out Kumhos) and ran a 13.78 at 102 mph. Pretty good pickup for headers and cutout. Previous best was a very cold night, so next winter, watch out.

Thanks Matt,

Glenn

Glad to see that you ran some good times. When is the bigger cam going in?

Matt,
Thanks, but remember, my 19 year old son drives that car most of the time, no way I'm doing a cam on it. I fly out to Houston to pick up my 2001 Z28 6 speed. You'll like the color, metallic maroon. You'll do a cam on this one before you do one on the 94.

See you,
Glenn

congrats on getting into the 13's

Brandon,

Have you had your car on the dyno or to the track yet?

Has your friend Ryan with the hot cam and home ported heads ran or dyno'd?

Just curious

I'm still working on mine but it's much closer to being done

I didn't realize how many Phx area people had 4th gens and drag raced them. You guys have some really nice cars! QUESTION: I'll have four spare 16" rims once I get the new 17" ZR1 rims for my 2001. I was thinking about getting some drag radials, but I'm worried about the rearend. Best 60 foot I have ever gotten on street tires is 2.09. At what level will I start hurting the rearend? Will I ever hurt it with street tires? If not, if I get drag radials and run under 2.0's will it give up the ghost? I hate to think about getting $2000 rearends for both cars!

Thanks,
Glenn

Glenn,

Do you have a 6sp or auto?

That will make a huge difference

Tom,

Havent been able to due either yet due to fuel problems. I was wondering why the car wasnt screaming up top so i threw a pressure gauge on it, and my pressure was dropping to like 28 psi when it got above 5000 rpm. I have a racetronix pump and harness kit waiting to go in this next weekend. After that I plan on just adjusting the rockers and then hitting the dyno for a tuning session, ill let you know how it goes! Whats the ETA on your car being done, what kind of shot are you planning on running??

Hey Bowtie-

Are you planning on keeping the new car stock?? Those are some good times for a stock Ls1 in AZ.

TCAL,
I have a 6 speed, so I know that's harder on the rearend. I'm thinking I better stick with street tires and not go to sticky rears.

Bowtie,
You ran a 13.4 bone stock at Firebird? Or was that at sea level over in California? Great times.

Thanks,
Glenn

I guess I need to chime in here too, since it is an AZ only thread. My car is slow and broken thats all I have to say. As for the rear in a 6 spd car, some people have good results, others not so good. Mine went south after only a handful of passes on DR's. On the other hand Dan (97bowtie) launches his 6 spd car on et streets and has many more passes than I do and his rear is still together. So you it really depends on how lucky you feel.

Brandon when we going blow your car up?

Dan did the new cam go in? Hows the car run?

Brandon - I don't plan on modding the SS too much. It's more of a daily driver.

Glenn - yes, 13.4 bone stock at Speedworld. I think the car has a couple more tenths in it...just need a little more seat time in the car.

Aaron - I got the new cam in and the car runs great! It pulls so much harder up top, it's unreal. I'll have the car out at Firebird this Friday - I don't think the car will have a problem going 113-115.

I have ~ 125 passes on my current rear end and it's holding up just fine. About half of those passes were on ET streets dropping the clutch at 4-5k. I've been lucky...I wouldn't recommend this technique, but it nets good times.
