new starter, can't get it to work smoothly

My starter went out, and i put on a new one from autozone. it's a bronze color, and slightly smaller/different shaped than the old one, but it had a piece of paper in ther with it that says "this starter looks slightly different than the original but will perform better" or something like that, so i figured it was fine. I bolted it in and when i start i hear a high pitched grinding noise. we tried putting 1-4 shims in there, shimming one side, everything we could think of and we can't get the thing to quiet down. what should i do?

I had the same issue. The remaned starters are junk. Go to NAPA or somewhere else and get a New one not remaned. The remaned ones i bought all whined and had to be returend.

I read if you buy a LT4 starter from GM they don't require a core. Check with Dal or Jason Cromer.
