new rockers...

i wanna do a cam kit but right now i dont have the money so i was wondering if its wise to just get 1.6 rockers.
http://fasttoys.net/shop/product_inf...roducts_id=202
i was looking at those. i would probably need the self aligning 3/8 stud 1.6 rockers correct? i want some better performance of coarse thats why i want to go with the 1.6 but everything else i said is correct?...in the future the car will probably be mostly bolt on upgrades nothing TOO huge. would it be safe to go with those and can i use stock valve springs and whatnot?any help or comments are appreciated.thanks

Re: new rockers...

I would. I am going though fixing a blown head. I'm not going to rep;ace the cam, but I am going to change the rockers.

If you are going to spend that much money on rockers I would buy the best! Comp Cam pro mag 1.6 with 7/16 studs.

Re: new rockers...

the one's rob posted are not the right ones, you need narrow body meant for center bolt valve covers. I would upgrade to the 7/16 and also guide plates and hardened push rods. I just got done putting in an 847 and now have to use nsa rockers due to not enough valve tip after the +.50 locks. Also the nsa rockers are supposed to be more stable at increased rpms.

Re: new rockers...

dont i have 3/8 studs stock? woulndt it be difficult to put 7/16 studs. also from what i have heard the 93 LT1s had hardened pushrods stock. would i be safe going with the ones i posted that are 1.6 ratio and 3/8 stud on a stock motor?

Re: new rockers...

Yes you can use the ones you posted 3/8 stud 1.6 SA, but if you plan on doing a cam later I would get the 7/16 NSA guide plates, and studs. The stock rocker studs are 7/16 coarse where the screw into the head with the sahnk that you see is 3/8. To convert you just unscrew the stockers and screw in the new bigger studs. Also I believe that 94-95 were the only years to get hard pushrods but I'm not 100%

1st post 5th from the bottom i think.
anyways i know what u mean now, i thought the studs in the head were 3/8 as well. do you have a link with those guideplates and studs. also i will prolly keep everything else, so the guideplates have 7/16 stud holes but 3/8 pushrod hole correct? becuase the stock pushrods should be 3/8 right? last thing, can i use my stock springs and lifters and everything like that?

Re: new rockers...

The pushrods are actually 5/16". You'll be on the edge with your stock springs, at least go with LT4 springs. Stock lifters are fine.
For guidplates either go with the GM high performace or the Isky adjustable. Standard small block plates don't seem to work properly on LTx motors.

Re: new rockers...

man this sounds like a lot more than i want to get into. i might as well get the LT4 hot cam kit. how much would LT4 springs cost and also the 7/16 studs and then the proper guideplates. the cam kit cost 660.

Re: new rockers...

I just had to get different guide plates from combination motorsports they were only $15 springs can be had for around $75 if you shop around, the studs for about $25 and rockers around $200. Comp cams does not make a guide plate for lt1's.

Re: new rockers...

i wanna do this the easiest cheapest way possible. i prolly wont be getting a cam for at least a few years and by then i will prolly have a whole new setup that will cost a lot and be a lot wilder, but until then could i just get the 1.6 ratio self aligning, 3/8 stud rockers? so that i can just change those and be done or do i HAVE to change the springs too.

Re: new rockers...

You can use the 1.6 SA rockers with the stock 3/8 studs but with stock springs you'de be pushing it. Lets just say things might get ugly if pushed at high rpms. The LT4 springs are good enough for your application and are vey reasonably priced. It's good to change the valve seals when you change the springs.

Re: new rockers...

Yeah, 69-Z28, I think we're in the same boat. I don't plan to do any major upgrades, so I was going to do the bare minimun, SA 1.6RR for the stock 3/8 studs. But I will be adding the LT4 springs though...relatively cheap for springs, but can handle the stock cam with your new RRs.

Since then, I found a good deal on some CC lifters and chromemoly pushrods...so doing that as well.

But wanna be cheap...do the SA 1.6RR for the stock 3/8 studs, but also get at least the LT4 springs.

You're right if you go major mod on your engine, you'll probably change bunch of things. Then you can just yank these parts out and sell them.
