New motor dynoed 218 WTF stroker

So motor is back together the second time now..
383 stroker 11:5:1 compression
236/245 114lsa .569/.580
new timing chain, opti, valve springs, all sensors, .. the headers will glow even at part throttle and idle..the cam is lined up right.. My question is where is this 200+ horsepower and why is the car running like crap..
Fuel pressure is good car doesnt show lean. Its definetly a timing problem but I know that the cam is lined up and I am almost positive that the optui is on right since i have done many opti installs. Also I adjusted valves many times and believe they are right too so what else can cause this timing problem

Check the cam again, check your vacuum, check spark.

sound like a cam problem. you are sure the opti is in right? You placed the cam dowel pin in the index groove of the opti? http://www.charm.net/~mchaney/optisprk/optisprk.htm

did you degree the cam?

Sounds like the cam is off a tooth.

Re: New motor dynoed 218 WTF stroker

The only thing I can think of is that the cloyes double roller was marked incorrectly. is this even possible? I have the cloyes that everyone uses when they do an electric waterpump and convert..There was three different key holes for the crank. I put it in the position that was suppose to be zero so no retard or advance. I believe it was a dot unlike the others which was a triangle and some other shape. That dot was lined up to the cam dot..Am I correct by saying that the only things that could be causing this are incorrect cam install, opti on wrong or bad valve adjustment? I just dont get how two different people that both have installed cams before screwed up the same way?

Re: New motor dynoed 218 WTF stroker

Either Opti is not in it's slot as everyone said, cloyes chain is not marked right but thats easy to check well somewhat easy without checking your TDC when your timing mark on the cam gear is looking at 6 o'clock and crank is 12 o'clcok the dowel pin should be at 3 o'clock

Also make sure when you are doing your valve adjustment you do 0 lash, but make sure when doing the procedure everything checks out, like when the book says as you approach TDC 1 the valves don't move well make sure they don't, if you are approaching TDC 1 and the valves are moving stil and you are sure it's tdc 1 meaning both timing marks are pointing up and valves move then your cam is probably messed up in the grounding process.

If your timing is too advanced this will make your spark timing too low meaning headers will glow from lack of spark timing.

Thats it hope that helps.

Re: New motor dynoed 218 WTF stroker

If the headers are glowing at even idle then the timing is WAAAAY off, Whats puzzling is that the car runs like this. Does it snort and pop every time the gas is even slightly applied?

Re: New motor dynoed 218 WTF stroker

you should have a triangle, square, and circle on both of the gears (at least that's how it is on the edelbrock double roller). If both the squares are lined up that is 0*.

Re: New motor dynoed 218 WTF stroker

With a Cloyes Hex-a-just there are three options for the crank sprocket.

The Rectangular keyway is to retard the cam
The Pointed or Triangular Keyway is to advance the cam
The Rounded or circular keyway is for installing the cam straight up.

If you have the crank sprocket in the the rectangular or the triangular it advances or retards the camshaft 4 degrees.

Re: New motor dynoed 218 WTF stroker

If ya degreed the cam and it was right on spect then there is nothing wrong with the sprockets, chain,or cam.
Ya need to check somewere else IF the degreeing was done right.

Re: New motor dynoed 218 WTF stroker

My car is doing the same after rebuild, runs like normal at idle but seems low on power. It backfires after I hit the gas often. Its diffucult for the car to make it up the driveway (steep). Could this be my problem too?
edit: I originally thought it was a misfire...

Re: New motor dynoed 218 WTF stroker

I have done threee sets of wires three sets of plugs.. Two optis, two mafs 3 map sensors, 3 tps sensors, two IAT sensors. 2 Sets of 02s, 2 different sets of injectors.. Here is one weird thing. The plugs show lean but that dyno showed 12:1 so I have no idea whats goin on
