new (to me) z28, any bolt on suggestions?

I just got a 93 z28 (auto) as a birthday present, has 80,000 miles on it, and is bone stock. For right now I'm interested in just doing some minor bolt ons, mainly headers/exhaust/intake? I'm not really sure how far I want to go, I just want to make it maybe noticeably quicker. I had been looking around, and this is what i had my eyes on...

Intake - Lingenfelter Supertube
Exhaust - Corsa Performance
Headers - Hooker F-Body Ceramic Coated

That would probably run me around 1600$ I'm guessing, not including any kind of labor fees for the headers and exhaust installation. I've looked around the forums at the specs listed for the cars and I never see anyone that has Corsa exhaust or Lingenfelter intakes....are there intakes out there that perform better than others? Lingenfelter claims it adds 12 h (doubt to the wheels)p to a stock 95 z28, even greater with other engine mods. I would assume the majority of them use K&N filterchargers so I don't know if I should worry too much about that. But for the exhaust... Corsa Performance claims that on a stock z28 it adds 14 rwhp. Are there other exhaust systems out there that offer comparable if not better performance? I don't think I should count on exhaust or headers for a lot of hp, but it makes a difference, and I want to get the most I can out of my money.

I'm pretty much open to anything, so any suggestions or recommendations for headers/intake/exhaust would be greatly appreciated.

corsa sounds good, but if your on a budget id recommend Hooker catback...sounds really nice, and gives a great gain

I'd either go with the K&N or SLP CAI. As far as Corsa...... I personally have never heard them. I like Flowmaster and Hooker Cat-backs.

Headers.... If you like shorties, go with SLP or AS&M. Other than that I would get some Longtubes. Just make sure they are ceramic coated. Will last a lot longer and look a hellalot better.

JMHO.

lt1 intake

Erik I dont think they make an after market intake for lt1 it flows good enough, since your an auto go with stall 3.73 160 thermostat borla or corsa or loudmouth, depends on budget and lower it.... headers can go on later depends if you want that horsepower all at once....

go with 2800 hundred stall and catback intake bellow and cold air intake, and gears and tuning....

Actually, LPE did make a version of the super ram for the LT1, but they didn't go over as well as the one for the TPI (LT1 doesn't fall on it's face at 5000 RPM) so they didn't make many of them.

Corsa sells really nice exhaust systems. Most are stainless steel and are quite pricy ($600+).

Speaking of pricy, if you're looking at all this high quality stuff, you're probably going to spend more than $1600 if you have someone else install it for you.

That being said, get a nice set of long tubes and have a y pipe made up. Then get a K&N or Moroso CAI. As far as mufflers, I really like my Dynomax Ultraflow, it sounds good and it is a straight through design so it's not restrictive like the flowmaster or other chambered designs.

Good luck and welcome to the club.

the lingenfelter CAI is also an excellent choice, it gives a great gain and it has the K&N filter attactched to the tube... all CAI are all the same as long as its not where the factory airbox used to be... if it drops down under its fine

id also recommend the lingenfelter cai due to the fact that its the same as the others and its relivaly cheap

I personally like the K&N or SLP CAI's. They probably all do the same thing, but the only complaint I have about Moroso CAI's is how the filter doesn't reach down as far as the K&N or SLP. My friend has the Moroso on his 95 TA, and it looks fine, but it doesn't reach down all the way into the splashguard area. As far as shorties, my vote goes for SLP. I may be biased since I have those, but it gave a great gain for me. If I could do it all over again though, i would have went with longtubes the first time.

first thing I'd do is find out your rearend gear ratio. If you have 2.73's like me, you'll know that those will eventually have to go. If you you have 3.23's then new gears may not be needed. I believe the codes are gu2=2.73 and gu5=3.23. If I were you, I'd do k&n intake, corsa exhaust, then either gears if you have crappy 2.73's like me OR headers if you already have 3.23's.

This is all you need to know:

Free mods (TB bypass)
160* thermostat
2800 vigilante (or other brands but I hear vigi converters are the best)
3.73 or 3.42's if you don't want to go that drastic
SLP or K&N cold air (LPE is overpriced and rare)
Hooker catback with cutout (don't waste your money or borla and corsa and crap like that)
Tuning

Done. If you want headers get them later as they will be a huge chunk of loot especially if you don't install them yourself. With those mods you should be able to hit the high 12's. The converter/gears and tuning will help incredibly.

I have some 342s for sale... gears in an automatic is like salt on a margarita glass, they just go together.
