New to LT1's

I an just looking for a few opinions. The car that I am looking at is a 94 Z28 with the A4, but I don't know what the rear end gears are. The car is power everything, is a hardtop and only has 48K miles.

What are some of the things to look for with the Lt1? I know virtually nothing about the optispark except that it's in a rather undesirable place on the 94's.

Any info would be helpful.

If you cannot select "1" on the center console shifter, you have 2.73 gears

If you can select "1" on the shifter, you have 3.23s

Re: New to LT1's

The Opti isnt AS BAD as everyone makes it out to be. Under more than one occasion Ive gotten mine soaked, and once it dried out, the car still runs perfect.

Take it for a drive, and dont be too suprised if it creaks and rattles. Camaros do that lol. Until you buy subframe connectors and weld or bolt them in. They REALLY seem to stiffen these cars up.

Uhmmm, Im trying to think of things to check for on it that their notoriois for ...

The window motors

Check the rear end for any leakage/seeping, that would maybe be a sign of abuse? But as low as the miles are, that would be hard to see.

T Tops leak check the interior out well.

If you can take a look at it, check the back of the intake manifold for any oil, its a known problem for LT1s to blow the gasket and leak oil.

When you test drive it, dont be afraid to try it out a little bit. Make sure it has good throttle response, doesnt break up in the upper RPMs, anything weird. Launch it hard at least once and make sure theres no abnormal noises ( Clunking, vibrating, grinding, etc)

Bake the tires on the test drive, dealers like that You could try and pull and fastone and tell them the tires are kinda used so what can they do about the price ... Ahhhhhh Scandalous Street Racing, what a DVD ... But anyways, off the top of my head those are the main things to watch for with an LT1

You dont have a 93 or a 94 either. Yours is vented into your intake. Ours isnt. So that leaves us very vunerable.

its also easy to make first selectable, if i remember right theres just a little spacer that keeps you from being able to pull it down into 1st thats made of rubber/plastic.

oh, also i dont know how much of a problem it is but ive noticed a LOT of the 94/95's (been quite a few posts about it quick search should show something) seem to have an odd issue with a ticking from the driver side *shrug* doesnt seem like anyones figured out why yet though... anyone wanna enlighten me on this if you did figure it out, cause i have the same problem lol.

Drive a A4 with 3.42 and you will hate the 2.73's

Hey thanks for the tip about the 1st gear! So if i get the plastic window with 1st gear on it itll work like i had 1st all along?

@ Homey
Im going to be getting 3.73s in it or something soon. Cause yes although they arent the end of the world 2.73's kinda suck. Im just saying that shouldent be a deciding factor when buying the car because new gears can be had for a couple hundred.

yeah, i think theres a picture of it on shoeboxs site, after you take the shift plate off of your console theres a spacer thats somewhere inside there, not on the plate itself... ill try to find a link to it for you, because i do remember seein a picture. and the 3.73's are a GREAT mod i dunno about gettin em for around 200 though, installed mine were around 600 *shrug*

edit: anyone wanna step in and try to explain how to make 1st selectable in a 94 car without it? couldnt find the how-to i was lookin for...

Re: New to LT1's

Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it. I took another look at the car today and it does have the 2.73's in it , but oh well. I am going to give the guy a call this afternoon and see what he has to say. I did notice today that it has a little bit of body damage on the lower front left fender but it is all on the plastic piece.

As for getting all up on it and all the squeeks and rattles, just look in the sig.

Re: New to LT1's

Now that you mention it, my car makes that slight "tick". Well, It used too. Then I got headers. Now you just can't really hear it hehe.

But Ive checked everything, probly 300 times now, trying to find the source of it. My neighbors Z28 does it too ( 94 ) and so does my bosses LT1 Vette actually, its a 94 also.
