Thumbs up New LT1 owner, just like to introduce myself

Howdy, gents.

Last night I picked up my new baby: A '94 Firebird Formula. Black on black leather interior/A4/Power everything. Got it for a song too (2k), but at a price like that you're guaranteed some repairs. In this case I need to replace both the transmission and engine mounts because the drivetrain clunks around under acceleration and I'm worried about grenading my rear end if things get too crooked.

My question to you is, then, what part numbers would I be looking for and where would I go about finding them? Thanks for the help and I'm glad to finally be joining the F car ranks.

The clunking is your transmission mount: $40 fix. No need to bother with engine mounts. Autozone should have a mount, as would any other parts store.

Wow, thanks for the quick response, Spinner! I'm really getting sick of babying it around town for fear of breaking something. I'll go pick that up this weekend.

Just curious, because I'm a complete newcomer to this car mechanically speaking, how long of a job would this be to do with two guys and some jackstands?

15 minutes after it's in the air. It's a known issue on these cars, they tend to go out every 50-75k or so.

FYI, Autozone sells either the factory replacement or Energy Suspension tranny mount.

I think I have the same issue as Reducedfat. Do you have to lift the trans up to replace mount?

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys.

Brent94Z-Are there any advantages to getting the energy suspension piece over the factory replacement mount?

Thanks again for the help, guys. After I get this and some ignition done, I'll get the go fast bits going

Welcome to the Board...

IF you need help with just about anything, this forum can help..

No question is a stupid question, just probably asked a few times in the past....

There is a search function at the bottom, just type in a word ( ie: energy suspension ) and normally a few hundred theads pop up on that subject or there abouts

There are a few of us that have access to GM part #s' either by disc/book or ordering/using a part in the past...

Have fun......

The energy suspension is stiffer, but is known to cause vibration on automatic cars. Stick cars don't seem to have the problem. I'd stick with the stock mount, at your mod level

Yep. Some end up with having a problem breaking them (higher hp) and sometimes the Energy Suspension one will be less prone to breakage

I'd say try the energy suspension bushing and see how you like it. Not everyone has the vibration problems, although it is more common on an auto than a M6 car. Worst case you can always pull it back off and sell it on the board or ebay.
