New LT1 owner :)

What's up guys?

I just wanted to introduce myself to the LT1 forum. I purchased a '95 6spd Z28 yesterday and am loving it so far. I had a V6 Firebird a few years ago, so I'm not a stranger to the F-Body, but this is my first V8 and its great!

Anyway, car is red, 121k miles and seems to be in great shape. It has some loose interior panels and some minor cosmetic issues but overall the car seems well taken care of it and problem free.

I only have two questions/issues so far. The first is that my driver's seat is more of a "rocking chair" than a car seat. Something is broken or loose under it as it rocks back and forth. I'm going to pull the seat out in a little bit and see if there is something obvious. Has else run into this problem? The upper side bolster is torn up as well, so I'd like to just replace the whole seat, are these fairly cheap?

Where should the temperature gauge sit during normal driving? Mine sits at about halfway up unless I turn the AC on (and thus engaging a secondary fan I was told) and then it'll drop down to more like a 1/4 of the way up. I was thinking doing a coolant flush and replacing the thermostat just to be safe, but is this normal?

That's it for now, thanks a lot guys! I hope to get some pictures up soon, but its pretty rainy in this part of the country.

Congratulations on the Z28. The coolant temperature your describing is totally normal. One of the best cheap mods you should start off with would be a 160* thermostat and while your at it I'd do the throttle body bypass. You can also find a fan switch pretty cheap in the for sale section or you can get a custom tune from madz28.com or pcmforless.com. My temperature used to be at 1/2 and now with the 160* stat and tuning with fans turning on earlier it stays less then 1/4 all the time. You can feel the car doesn't feel bogged down in traffic.

CAI and catback exhaust are good first mods as well.

welcome to the lt1 hel...wonderful world! just one word of advice for your future adventures, patience.

as far as temp goes, is that sitting in traffic or highway? as far as sitting in traffic is concerned, at least with my car, thats pretty normal. might want to flush the system just for good measure. who knows if has been done at all yet.

not sure about the seat. mine doesnt do that. there is a recline feature on the seat. i would assume that it is broke. it allows the seat to rock back and forth but only if you use the lever. the lever would be on the front right of the driver seat. might check it out. anyways, congrats on the camaro. see you around.

Yeah the seat sounds like it could have a few loose nuts holding itdown, pretty explanatory.

The temp is about right, on the highway it should drop to about 190-180 cruising.
I would get a performance tune and a 160 thermostat. Cold air induction kits like the Moroso,K&N, SLP, etc are a good start along with a 3 inch cat-back system from the likes of Hooker , Flowmaster,Magnaflow,SLP,etc will really wake the car up.

hey nice choice of model, year, and tranny
others have mentioned some stuff so i'm not going to reiterate that
i'm not too sure you need or really want a 160 tstat and a fan switch (or a pcm tune to make them come on lower)
i think someone noticed or did a study on or something that the lt1 was more comfortable in the 180-195 temp range
just a thought
