New injectors

Alright well the shop I take my car to said that I need all 8 new fuel injectors, they said that it would be 500 for it so I was just wondering if I could possibly get a better deal for that.

Well, first of all there's no way you just had 8 injectors all fail at once, so I'd ask for more information on why they think you need 8.

If somehow you do need a complete set, you can get a set of injectors and install them yourself for a lot less than $500.

What's wrong with the car? How many miles? etc...

Re: New injectors

Ive got 152k on the clock right now, About a year ago my car had the opti fail on it and so that got replaced and a couple months ago it started acting up again, it hesitates at low rpm and feels like it sticks in 1st gear for awhile before shifting but I dont think it could be the tranny cause that just got replaced too. Also, it seems to stumble at around 40-55mph. I took it to the shop and they said that all my injectors were bad.

Re: New injectors

If you wanna attempt testing them im sure we can give you the guidance to check them. 500$ is REALLY steep for injectors. You can get some SVO 24# injectors for 200$. Install takes 30 minutes.

You could also go onto the for sale section and get a good set of used stock injectors for $50.00.

It is almost impossible that all 8 of your injectors are bad at the same time. I'd suggest you find a new mechanic because this one is trying to rape you.

Get some basic tools yourself and start diagnosing it. Scan it for fault codes. Check the fuel pressure. use a noid light to verify signal is getting to all the injectors. Give it a tune up with new spark plugs and wires. Clean up the throttle body. Replace the fuel filter and PCV valve.

You could easily do all of the above yourself on a weekend and not even come close to $500.

Re: New injectors

the only way all 8 failed at the same time is if the grounding is bad. no way that all 8 failed at the same time.

check the for sale section for some stockers or even ebay. i bought a set of used 30 lb accell injectors for less than 100. a lot of people will tell you accel sucks but i didnt have any problems.

also, if you want new, i'd suggest getting something like a 30 or a 32 and have the ecm programmed with the money you save. the programmer can take them into consideration while tuning and you can get the most power and efficiency out of your engine. plus, with the bigger injectors the duration is less and you can add fuel closer to spark...wasting less fuel.

at dealer prices, 50 a piece plus taxes, plus labor fees (probably broken down into each injector...wasting your money since they're not going to take off the rail 8 times...) is how they make their estimates. so it's realistic but i'd still take the chance and do it myself. heck, if you have problems just ask here adn i'm sure someone is in the area or could call and talk you through it.

Re: New injectors

If their getting dealer items, I could see that price.

If the car sat for a while, it could have bad injectors. All 8 of mine clogged SOLID when the car sat from 1996 until I got it in 2002? Maybe 2003? I dont remember.

Unbolt the fuel rail, but let the injectos and lines on it. Put rags in the holes where the injectors go into the manifold. Get a few fresh shop rags. Have someone get in the car, while you hold the rails. When they turn the key to on, NOTHING should happen, not even a tiny drip. But when they crank it, it should spray a nice, even, cone shapped mist, out of each injector, at different times. Good luck with it, and be careful. ABSOLUTLY do this on a cold engine, not hot. And have a hose close by for any "accidents".

Re: New injectors

You can test the resistance on each injector and see if they are within spec. Chances are most of them are not.

Re: New injectors

If your not planning on doing anything more than bolt ons, no.

If you plan to make a heads cam car, yes.

Or if you plan to supercharge/n20 your car, yes.

But you cant just swap them in. Youll need to send the PCM out and have the computer reprogramed for it, or it will run way too rich, washing the cylinder walls of oil, and potentially, causing severe ring/cylinder/piston damage as a result. You CAN NOT just swap them without the PCM being programed.

MadZ28, or PCMforless are the guys to talk to for that.

Re: New injectors

I'm pretty sure the 93's were 22 lb/hr stock. I would get the svo 24's. My 1991 Z28 5.7L were 22 lbs stock and I run the svo 24's. I just have headers, exhaust, and cold air intake and they work well with the stock computer programming.

Re: New injectors

you can get a set of SVO injectors that are leaps better than stock GM stuff for about $350 for 30#'s.

This guy is ripping you off. Say F-you and do it yourself for half the cost.
