New Golen 383 LT1 install
New Golen 383 LT1 install
Hey guys, I purchased a 383 LT1 from Golen Engine Services. Built for autocross and track days, this motor dyno'd 460 hp and 440 ft lbs.
Strongest motor Golen builds that will pass CA smog.
Pulling old reliable out now and should have new 383 installed soon. Really excited about this mod! Here's the beast in my garage:

Re: New Golen 383 LT1 install
what heads and cam did you/Golen put in it?
passing calif smog will have a great deal to do with your tune. If right you will pass. I do with mine. I just got a Golen 383 short block though and h/C elsewhere back in 2005. my motor engine dynode at 430 hp and 446 TQ with a small 218/224 cam, shorty headers on 91 octane tune

Re: New Golen 383 LT1 install
Stock LT1 aluminum heads that have slight bowl and runner porting.
LT1 intake 58 mm bore and port matched to heads.
The cam is Comp Cam grind# 280XFI HR-13
Duration @ .050: Intake 230, Exhaust 236
Gross Valve lift: Intake .576 Exhaust .571
Lobe separation : 113.0
PCMforLess did the tune. So I'm hoping I have as good luck as you passing smog.

Op
did you neutral balance the FW & PP?
I assume Golen built you a "internal" balance 383 so you need a neutral aka "zero" balanced FW & PP.
You can take the FW & PP to a machine shop and have it neutral balanced. They will grind off the cast in weight and add pins in the outer holes as needed to balance it. They they will add the PP to the FW and zero that out. Those sliding weights on the CF PP may effect balance...but more important you get FW & PP zero balanced if you have a internal balanced motor (my Golen is)

Thank you all for the comments.
Dropped the motor in a couple days ago.
Chimera96,
Yes, my 383 is internal balanced. With the engine build, I had Golen balance a new flywheel with the Centerforce DF. They did what you said about grinding off the cast weight and then drilled balanced holes. BTW, how is your Golen engine running?
