new to the forum, just bought a 96 Z

Just letting you guys no that I have learned soo much about
LT-1's from this forum. When I checked out the car I new how to check to see if the opti was allright, I looked for the famous intake leak and all the other problems that go with these cars. The car checked out allright, and now I have a 96 Z with 80,000 miles. Just figured I would introduce myself. ( I know this really isn't technical discussion, but I wanted to post this where the people that helped me out could see it)

thanks guys,
trav

Cool. Nice to have ya. I bought my 96 with 80,000 miles on it too. 14 months and 8,000 miles later. I'm still as happy as when I first laid eyes on it. Enjoy.

Welcome,.here I'll help you out.

1. Cutout
2. Homemade 4" PVC CAI
3. Free Mods (throttlebody one is good)
4. Long Tube Headers ( spend the money and get them coated) DO NOT buy the PACE ones.
5. www.PCMFORLESS.com
6. Buy Lloyd's Ported Heads
7. BMR Suspension Components ( Start with sub-frame connectors)
8. Any electrical troubles? Its ALWAYS the Optispark
9. Need Parts ? Call Jason in florida at Sam's Caddy dealership (best prices)
10. Spark plugs take 4 hours to change if you have stock exhaust manifolds. (loosen pass motor mount and jack up with board under oil pan 2")
11. Do Not buy any Hot Cam kit. Much more betterer stuff out there.
12. Do Not put any coffee can size exhaust tip on your camaro.

mm,.. I think that covers it all, I miss any ?

Welcome to the board...I also want to ask what is wrong with the Hot Cam Kit.

For someone that is concerned with emissions and other little stuff like that, I think the Hot Cam is a wise choice because people have seen up to 40 rwhp from what I have read. If you then match that with a set of nice flowing heads you are all set.

Welcome!

Strongly suggest looking into when the coolent was last changed. Recommended at 60,000 miles....if not changed it will start to gum up the system. Many people lose the low coolent sensor that way...also the heater core will gum up and the heater won't work as well.

If you can't find out when it was done last, then I'd get it done just to be safe. Also look into the fuel filter and trans fluid if it's an auto.

Have fun and enjoy it!!

I picked mine up 3 years ago with 42,000 on the clock. Just passed 100,000 and it's running great!!

I just put my first 50 miles on it today..she ran great. By the way, it's quasar blue with t-tops. I have a question for ya..i heard that it was normal for the rearend to leak a lil bit. Mine doesnt have any coming from the diff cover but it's leaking out of where the driveshaft connects to the diff. It's not a lot, but i do notice a little bit there. Should i be too concerned about it?

thanks,
trav

I have same color combo as you with T-tops, Only a 94. My rear is leaking a little where yours is, I wouldn't worry about it, As for mine I plan on blowing it up anyways the first time I hook up with the new combo and going to a 12 bolt or 9"
