New engine for the 93'
New engine for the 93'
Well i have a 93 that has a 96 vette lt1, alum heads, powerdyne 4.5 psi kit untuned and the motor is finally very angry at me so its time for a new one. Now i kno my 93' has speed density and everything but i was considering selling the powerdyne and mayb build a 383, buying a 383 short block or something? Im a newbee to the whole tuning deal and being 16 i really dont have alot of experience with it but id like to learn. i more or less just wanna get it running again and have considered putting a junkyard motor in but im thinking for the peice of mind, just build a motor or buy one built? what would my best bet be and me being on a tight budget and money for this project would probally be from selling the blower. Thanks

Re: New engine for the 93'
a guy named david vizor wrote a series of books. One of them is how to build a 550 HP motor with 3k. Im 16 also and have been waiting to do this but my tranny set me back alot. I no its a small block and the book has many ideas and a friend of my dads built one and he really only spent 3500 on it. He didnt get to tell me any track times but he did tell me a story that he raced high 11's low 12's import on the highway and killed it so just an idea to look into

That book isnt going to tell you anything that will help you with your car really. Its going to say which heads to get and which ones to port, and on our cars, theres no real options.
Running the powerdyne without tuning is just plain stupid. Instead of building a 383, you should put the money towards a budget rebuild. Stock Crank, Rods, GOOD bearings, and forged lower compression pistons. Keep your blower, get it tuned, and be content with it.
And FWIW, your parents are nuts for letting you get a supercharged camaro when your 16. Granted I dont have alot of room to talk, I bought mine totaled and rebuilt it when I was 16, but theres a big difference between mine, and a supercharged one. And you didnt blow that engine up from babying it.
And even mine, everyone kept telling my parents they should make me sell it once I had it together and a couple people drove it.
No 16 year old has any business driving a 12 second car.

Re: New engine for the 93'
Actually, the motor needed piston rings b4 i bought it, i just now found it out tho. Ive been into cars my whole life, dad drives a 78 vette pace car, uncle drives a 62 nova both which i drive on a regular basic and both i know how to drive well. i build a 73' nova from a stock 130k 307 powered to a completely rebuilt 350 73 nova. only thing it needed was paint. yes the camaro is faster but i know how to drive it, wen i do get into it, i kno wen to get out of it etc.
Thanks on the info tho, thats probally what i will do, reuse the stock crank n rods and put forged dished pistons in. and most importantly get it tuned..

Re: New engine for the 93'
Well first off let me say your lucky to have a supercharged car at your age!.....but here is what id do forged bottom end bring the compression down to 9:1 get a nice blower cam and port your exsisting heads and intake with a larger throttle body whats your budget???
and for the record being that you are 16 and money dosent grow on trees id get a bare lt1 block and start there so for the time being you have a running car......hidden costs can set you back and be a pain in the ***
