New chip = worse gas mileage?

I recently installed some mac headers on my car along with cat and cat-back. So I drove it around for a week while flooring it quite a bit to feel the new power and got around 18 mpg with about 20% highway. Then I got my new chip from PCMforless and drove around with just about the exact same conditions as before and I only got around 14 mpg. Now I know these cars aren't made for good mileage, but this just seems strange to me. So I was just wondering if this was normal due to the fact of the advanced timing and changed a/f ratio or something of that nature.

Also, I really can feel any SOTP difference, but I guess that's normal for only about a 10-15 hp difference. I was going to go to the track today at route 66, but couldn't due to rain ( we're having a bad drought and it chooses to rain today ). So next week I'll be able to get some track times with and without the chip to hopefully prove some hp gains.

Re: New chip = worse gas mileage?

You really should notice better gas mileage if anything.. But that goes along with better gas mileage with better exhaust and cold air intakes.. Its all relative to how much time you spend goosing it.

I'm not sure if your saying you can't or you can feel a difference. I'm quite proud of our 93' chips. I've got plenty of feedback saying that i've totally turned around the driveablity even in totally stock 93 cars. If you felt nothing, all I can say is either

1. take it to the track and do a few back to back runs with and without
2. send me some datalogs so I can make sure everything is in order.

If the car hasn't had a tune up in a while you will definately not see the full gain. Also, the chips (unless otherwize ordered without power programming) are ment for premium fuel.
