New to Camaro's where should I start?

I am new to Camaro's and am wondering where i should start as far as modifying the car. The car is a 94 Z28 wit hautomatic transmission. Already have a K&N intake kit and I think a catback system or maybe just the muffler is switched out. Was thinking about starting out with some of the less expenssive mods first and then going from there. Is the bypass for the throttle boddy coolant worth it and also the air foil that SLP makes to go inside of the thottle body any good?

TB bypass worth it. Air foil, only get it if you find it used. Best first mod is a cold air intake.

The TB bypass is not a bad mod. It takes some heat away from the throttle body and makes it much easier to remove in the future. I've never seen any proof that air foils are worth the money. There may be some proof out there, somewhere, but I never considered it something to spend my money on.

Welcome and familiarize yourself with the search feature. Lots of info comes through this site.

Re: New to Camaro's where should I start?

look at my sig, those are some really good mods to start out with.....after that I need some 3.73 gears and longtube headers, and then onto bigger stall converter and after that then its roller rockers, cam, heads.......etc...

Tb bypass is worth it because it is very cheap, air foil is worth it if you get it for cheap also, Drag radials and the tune by madz28 were probably the best mods after the intake and cutout. After those mods the next best mod for et at the track was weight reduction.....it helps a ton.

tuning is just a way to get the most out of the mods you have done
the best thing to do is get a few things done like headers and then get the tune done all at once for your mods

The throttle body bypass shouldn't cost anything. Done it twice and no cost whatsoever was involved. Tuning is basically need because when you add performance parts to your vehicle(headers, cam, heads) it gains horsepower but with more horsepower the demand for fuel goes up. So you need to be able to tune the fuel curves in your PCM. Tuning isn't always required but it'll definitly help your car run and you won't have to worry that you're running way to lean or way to rich. Tuning is also used for when you change rear gear ratios, fan temps and other functions of the vehicle.

You can still see the benifits of tuning on a stock car. But I think the best dolar for dollar mod is a CAI.

Check out madz28.com for tuning

Re: New to Camaro's where should I start?

What are you plannin on using the car for? If you already have intake and exhaust, I would then go to a 3.73 rear gear ratio. After that you can do long tube headers and a cut out. After that, I would start upgrading the suspension, because you are going to be making enough power that upgrading the suspension will help you with traction. Then I would only decide on what cam or heads/cam package you want to get and put is a torque converter that will stall at the appropriate RPM. Then do the heads and cam and you should be around 380-400rwhp. Somewhere in there you are also going to want to get a new rear end because if you are putting down any good amount of power and getting traction, the stock 10 bolt will not last long. Get either a 12 bolt or 9" rear end. Dyno tuning after big mods like heads and cam is also recommeded to get the most out of your set up.

That is good advice, but I'm sure it will be several years down the road before he gets that done. Stick to the bolt on's first.

Well right now it is a daily driver and will be for teh next couple of years. But in the overall the car will see both street and track use. But for now I am looking more towards the bolt ons for now. Was thinking later on going with a supercharger to finish it out. And thanks to all for the advice.

TB Coolant Bypass is @ no cost and the Pert Plug should be the same. Start researching the purchase of a CAI and possibly a 160* thermostat. Read the members signatures and see what they have done. You also might check to see how long they have been doing the mods since it eventually will start exercising your credit card.
