New cam with an Auto?

If I were to put in say, a CC305, and do no head work, upgrade all the valvetrain and stuff, would I be able to keep my Auto stock? or would i have to put in a stall? I wouldnt be looking to make this thing into a strip beast, just some more power around town and a nice little lope to impress the friends with.

I know there are some people on the board who have the LT4 Hot Cam, CC305 and CC306 who still have there stock stalls and run good times. Maybe if they see this post they can chime in. You might wanna check this post out http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...ferrerid=11855
and that made my decision to stay with my stock stall. You can also do a search to find more info. If you have any questions feel free to send me a PM or you can e-mail me. Good luck.

You can stay with the stock stall but you cannot get the best performance out of it unless you go with a higher one. You will have to do some PCM tuning with that cam i belive also.

i ran my stock stall with my cam XE224/230, it sucked. i had to stand on the brakes to make it stop rolling. it would not spin the tires from a stop, it felt lugged down until about 3000 rpm. cam surge was very noticeable. this was with pcmforless tuning and 3.73 gears.
my stock tranny lasted less than 500 miles before it blew. my vigilante 2800 stall works perfectly, you can barely tell its there, almost feels stock, until you floor it

So basically, im not gonna be hurting with the stock converter? Also, im really not ever going to take this to the track, like i said earlier, i just want more power around town, and for that lovely cam lope. If im going to lose lots of power in around town driving, should I go with a smaller cam then?

here is my tranny story: bought it at 62K miles, 5K miles no problem, then OD started to slip a little, had it flushed problem fixed, drove it hard for 10K miles with no problem, new cam/heads, then it lasted 1 and half WOT runs on the street and i lost 3rd and 4th gear.......
if your tranny is weak it will show

why exactly do the trannies seem to die so easliy with just a cam swap? Is it do to the converter?

Too much stress on the auto? Maybe all F-bodies should have come with a T56.

After a week you won't even know you have a stall. Driving a car without one would feel wierd. I'd definately get the stall. Not only will you get more out of your cam but it will just make the car easier to drive. You don't have to be a regular at the strip to get mods. Trust me your around town driving will put a smile on your face a whole lot more with a converter.

i agree with jay roll, you will be much happier with a stall, my 2800 stall feels like stock, it tries to roll forward at stop lights, the most i can stall it too with my brakes is 2000rpm. it feels stock after a week or so......
