new cam =blowen motor

well i just picked up my car from the shop to have cam installed xe 224/230.when i first started the car it sounded awesome,it pulled 321rwhp,i was pretty happy.it was raining cats &dogs so i couldnt get on it.drove it home from shop about 25 miles,as soon as i got home car was running like s**t,it wouldnt idle keep stalling, and had a knock, called bryan at pcm forless,he said disconnect batt to reset pcm,but it sounds like a spun bearing, after letting it sit for 10 min it started right up,let it idle for a few min, than knock knock.i cant believe this is happening the car has 58,000 miles,is my motor done or could it be something stupid,im 99% sure its a knock i just cant believe it,sorry for the long rant it just doesnt add up

Whenever I hear "ran fine, then drive in rain, runs like crap" I think the opti got soaked. Can you log a run to see if it's retarding? Rocker may of come loose also. I would look for more minor stuff first. Luv the hood stripe btw.

Check the valve lash first.

200miles after i install heads/cam the bearings die due to a head gasket leak somewhere. Check your oil, take your filter and chisel it apart and see waht you find.

Email me or PM me with what you find in the oil and filter

Yeah, check the oil on the dipstick and filter. Something like that could be caused by a cam swap if something got into the motor that hindered oil flow, like too much RTV in the motor clogging up oil passages or the stock oil cooler. Have you talked to the shop that did the work?

My little cam had been in for a few thousand miles, but when I got my heads done, about a couple of hundred miles later (8 K on the clock total milage) the bottom went to hell on my 97SS.

Now with a brand new short block and $4700.00 later I am breaking her in for the first 500 miles.

8 grand on the clock and a new motor (and it was NEVER abused). Go figure.

That sucks, now I'm scared to put a cam in mine. It has 128k on it. I figure when I rebuild it I'll put a 383 crank in and a cc305 cam with forged pistons.

bro as far as i'm concerned you're asking for trouble at 128k.... if you're serious just do the whole motor....save yourself the aggravation....the stress factor sucks....i'm just glad i've got my car back for the late spring/summer....

Cool

I'm sure they didn't change the cam bearings when they installed the cam..Thers your problem. Look for #8 rod bearing to be gone or #2..
