New aftermarket power steering pump from Turn One

Just saw this one on the gm hightech performance magazine's website. http://gmhightechperformance.com/tech/0602htp_power/

It looks cool but it looks like the power steering pulley is bigger than the stock ps pulley. Now, i was just helping my brother swap out his optispark and when we were taking off one of the bolts on the water pump i noticed he couldn't use a deep socket b/c it hit the pulley, had to use a regualar socket and extension. So, i'm thinking if this aftermarket pulley is bigger then no one will have access to that bolt on the water pump. Thus, when changing the opti, you will have to take out the ps as well and maybe the alternator to get the ps out. Any thoughts?

nevermind...going to contact turn one about my question...

probably could just pull it off if it gets in the way. If its really big, might be able to put a socket and extension through it to right the bolt on the water pump.

Those pumps are fine. I've had one for 3 years. The internals are set to pump less fluid reducing overheating whish is very common in road racing, auto cross and lapping. I've never overheated since installing mine, and I notice no significant increase in steering effort required. Great product. Also frees up a few ponies ~5 or 6 at the top end.

The pulley is the same size as stock, just lighter. The pump gains its efficiency by internal modification.

Stock pumps are designed to move a lot of fluid (gpm) at low rpm, this is to make turning the wheel in low speed situations (ie parking) a lot easier. Consequently at high speed the pump is moving fluid at an even higher rate, this really heats up the fluid. I've seen a stock 69 camaro pump melt the solder that holds the tank together, due to road racing. Turn one most likly reworks the internals so that it flow less fluid at a higher rpm, thus keeping your fluid cooler.

Well if ya are running road racing or NASCAR it might be worth it.
Oil coolers work well and the relief opens on the stocker to compensate for the RPM's Or ya could repully it.

Ya could also do like we did in the '60's-- steering by armstrong.

Ya could probably get a rebuilt or one from the junk yard for $50.00. Ahhhhh what was the price of the fancy pump again?
