I am thinking about buying some 3.73's for my 96 M6, but i dont know if i have the 10 bolt or 12 bolt and if its series 2 or 3....also, if i buy the gear kit and have a mechanic install it, what else will have to be changed, i.e. speedometer and tach...anybody that has had this done, was it a noticable difference and what difference could i expect in the 1/4 mile, im running 14.1 now..thanks sorry for all the questions

You have a 10 bolt FOR SURE, unless your car was the only special one of all the f-bodies produced
So yea, 10 bolt.
What gears do u have in there now?
Just a thought, u ever though about 4.10's? Some love them and some love 3.73's...i have an auto and i love my 3.73's with my 3000 Vig stall.. Auto baby!
But people see around a half sec gain with that combo give or take a few tenths...But for your car, it would all depend on what you have right now. But you wont gain IMO more then i would for sure. So dont expect anything big.
And yes, you'll need to recalibrate your speedo. Either by a hypercrap or custom programming like www.madz28.com or www.pcmforless.com . I HIGHLY suggesting going threw those people....

Not trying to influence you but 4:10's are PERFECT for city driving. You don't have to slip the clutch to get started and you should not lose any gas mileage if you drive it moderately. One of the best mods I did.

Just go to your car and look for thhe code starting with 'GU" followed by a number.
IMO going from 3.42's to 3.73's is NOT worth the price unless u found a rear with 3.73's in it already. that way u can sell your old one. Thats the ONLY way i'd think about getting 3.73's, b/c the switch from the 2, just isnt worth it in my eyes, ESPECIALLY if your looking for big gains from it. Save that money for bigger hp mods...
Now if you were thinking about 4.10's, i think the switch might definetly be worth it them...Big enough to notice a difference.
But hey, thats just what *I* think..
