Need valve lash adjustment help asap
i am adjusteing the lash with the engine running and i am feeling weary...
i have stock arms and locking nuts and i was backing them off until i hear the clacking...
first thing i noticed is it was taking between 1-1 1/2 turns to hear them clack, is this normal for stock?
second, do i just tighten 1/4 turn past where they stop clacking or do i go further?
thank you

I prefer to do rockers with engine off, no mess. When the intake valve starts to close, adjust the exhaust on that cylinder. When the exhaust starts to open, adjust the intake. IC, EO. Spin the engine with a breaker bar on the dampener bolt, or remove power to the ignition and have a bud bump the starter. To adjust, loosen rocker nut, then twirl the pushrod with your fingers as you slowly tighten nut until you feel slight resistance. This is zero lash. Then add the preload.

and the factory setting was like 1- 1 1/2 turns...
well i went down and turned them another 1/4 turn... just to be safe...
now i'm at ~1/2 turn from zero lash...
i really don't want to ef things up... i wouldn't even have messed with the but i had an arm fall off the valve spring and rod...
i greatly appriciate all the help i get...
From my valve adjustment article, after zero lash is determined:
With stock lifters, turning the rocker nut another ½ to ¾ turn, will normally put you in the ballpark for quiet operation without being too tight and the adjustment should last a long time.
