Need some tech help, lifter and pushrod

The dealer (cool dealer) has found the number one intake lifter is broken. The number eight pushrod and exhaust lifter is broken.

They have parts coming tomorrow. I plan on doing an oil change.

Any idea on what could cause this?

It is a 383 Stroker from Becks Racing Engines. I beat on it fairly hard.

If you overreved the engine that might happen. Did you miss a shift, or take it into valve float territory? I would check for other damage in the valve train. Others might not be so conservative, but were it me, I'd replace all the lifters as a set. Depending on what type the pushrods are, I might even replace them all as a set as well.

Good luck.

How many miles/condition are the lifters in? Are they stock, aftermarket?

Is the pushrod bent? or broken is pieces?

How high do you rev?

I'm wondering if this could have occurred when I first installed the engine.

1 1/2 years ago the stock engine lost a wrist pin. I had the stroker shortblock installed. Drove it 100 miles. Changed the oil, and put it on the track. The very first pass the tranny slipped bad and it bounced at 7000.

It was however a national event and I did ruin it (and went at least to round 2)...

It has never really been right.

Otherwise I have been shifting at 6200 (1-2) and 6400 (2-3). Is it even possible that this has been a problem for a long time? I heard the push rod was in pieces.

I recently broke two pushrods from a missed shift. I didn't know they were broken until I had driven the car for a couple hundred miles. When we got it back and took it apart to check for damage, two of them came apart. Spring pressure held them together and I lost no oil pressure. The engine ran OK (not perfectly though).

I'd guess that yes, you could have damaged them a while ago, especially if it hasn't been running right. 1 1/2 years is a long time though. If they've been broken that long, consider yourself lucky.

I probably have 15000 miles on the motor and 700 passes or so. As far as I know, theey are the stock pushrods and stock lifters.

Another thing that could cause this is coil bind. Did you install adequate valve springs when you changed your cam?

My understanding is stock pushrods on a '94 are hardened.

Anyway, more news. 1 broken lifter (pieces), two bent lifters, one broken pushrod (pieces).

Replaced and it now works. I will romp on it a bit tonight and see what happens.
