Exclamation Need some help with stock converters and cam choice.

I am working on a customers car and he wants a camshaft but doesn't have the money to do cam and torque converter right now so I am thinking about putting either the Crane 210-224@50 cam or the Hotcam in his car but don't know how either will do w/o a torque converter. I ran the Hotcam and loved but always had a converter. The car has my old AS$M headers, CAI and PCM tuning by PCM forless which will be retuned for the cam and stock 3.23's out back. What would be the best street cam for this car? I am leaning towards the Crane but it will be more expensive than the Hotcam kit once he buys rockers and springs. Does the Hotcam work well with a STOCK CONVERTER or is it borderline b/c if it's borderline I will go with the Crane. Thanks Later Clint

I would go with the crane, another cam that makes more power with out loosing much of any usable low end is the new edelbrock performer cam with 218 intake and 218 exhaust duration with .525 lift with 1.5 rockers

I am sure the Hotcam will work with a stock verter but this guy is really picky about his stuff and I would hate for him to be unhappy with the cam b/c it would need a converter to idle in gear well and stuff. He wants kinda close to stock feel if you know what I mean. Later

Yeah i asked the same question about the stock converter and a hotcam the other day. I think if you search for "hotcam and stall" or something like that u will see the responses.

Yeah I went ahead and ordered the Crane 210-224 b/c I don't want the customer to be unhappy although I do like the Hotcam it's not my car. I am alos putting Impy headgaskets and a good tune so it should run well. Later Clint

What do the Impy headgaskets do?? does it raise the compression b/c they are thinner?? Would that make the cam/stock converter combo more streetable? Sorry I know that's a lot of questions, but this thread is very interesting to me since this is the same decision I am trying to make.

Yes, The Impy headgaskets are thinner and make a little more compression and power. It should make it a little more streetable but not very much. It will be plenty streetable with either of the two cams mentioned above. Later
