I was coming home from a car show today and I smelled rubber burning anyway I opened the hood and there was a little smoke and rubber melting from the pipe that comes off the top passenger side of my slp header there is a rubber hose that connects to it and then goes to another small pipe.

I think it might be my secondary air injection pipe and the other smaller pipe looks like it goes to my air pump maybe.

Anyway why would this hose start to melt down I tried to feel it and it was exteremly hot it has never done this before does anyone know what might be the problem?

I checked my air pump fuse and it is not blown and I am getting no ses light.

Could my air pump be bad?

are you sure its just the air tubes that are extremely hot? or are the headers just as hot? if so is there any loss of power? when my cat got clogged it backed up all the exhasut gasses and made my manifolds glow a bright red

 

The AIR check valve is probably stuck open and allowing exhaust to get to that hose. A new valve should fix it.

 

No my headers are not glowing and the cat is almost new. It was the air tube that was hot the rubber hose was very hot and should not be as hot as it was I think there is a valve of some sort that might not be working I am pretty sure it has something to do with the secondary air injection or air pump system.
